In Focus Explores Federal
Maternal Health Initiatives
The spring issue of Women’s Health in Focus at NIH examines Federal efforts to reverse the climbing maternal morbidity and mortality rates in the United States, the latter being the highest among the world's wealthiest nations. These efforts include a recent action plan from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a complementary call to action from the Office of the Surgeon General, NIH’s IMPROVE (Implementing a Maternal health and PRegnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone) initiative, and other NIH programs designed to address maternal health disparities among underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and other underserved populations.
Additional articles discuss other developments related to women's health research, matters concerning health equity, ORWH's new e-learning courses on sex and gender in research, and women in biomedical research and other STEMM careers.
