SMCS NEWS: Praying for Bees

At SMCS, we learn about and pray for our bees.

In addition to sharing his bee knowledge, Mr. Harrington also shared an endearing bit of news about the hives he keeps in his backyard: It turns out that Mrs. Klein’s class had been praying for them throughout the winter during their morning prayer intentions!

Less than 50% of hives are able to successfully endure the winter months, but despite several cold snaps, all of his bees survived. And thanks to his home’s proximity to our school, it’s entirely possible that the pollinator plants in and around our campus (including those in our school garden planted by Mrs. Janus’ Garden Club!) might be visited by some of the honey bees in the Harrington family hives.

COMMUNITY UPDATES

Get ready to add to your family’s Art Collection! The Spring Art Show will be virtual this year, but you can still purchase a framed piece of artwork created by your student (grades K-8 only). This online show will open next Friday, April 30 and remain open for purchases through Friday, May 7.

All framed works will be sold for $26 with a portion of sales benefiting Saint Mary’s Catholic School.

There will be two Field Days and BOTH DAYS are now half days. Please note that this is an important change in our school calendar.
  • Fri., May 28 = FIELD DAY (G5-8) + NOON DISMISSAL
  • Wed., June 2 = FIELD DAY (JK-G4) + NOON DISMISSAL
Be sure to complete this form by next Friday, April 30th for each of your students to ensure they receive their T-shirt in time for Field Day next month! Note there is no payment required for shirts since they are included in student fees. Faculty and staff should also complete the form to indicate their preferred size.

Please also consider donating some Field Day equipment by checking out Mrs. Robinson's needs here.

BY THE NUMBERS: HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE CHOICES

36 High School Acceptances for Class of 2021!

We are so proud of all 45 of our soon-to-be graduates. We're especially proud to share that for the first time ever, Saint Mary's Catholic School students were awarded 3 out of 3 Freshman Merit Scholarships to Benedictine College Preparatory School.

Note that the acceptances below are not student counts; some students have applied for and gained acceptance to multiple high schools while many students have opted to attend their zoned public schools. Best of luck to all in the next chapter, but remember, you'll always be a Mighty Monarch!

Class of 2017 College Acceptances Rolling In...

"[I'm] so proud of all of them, especially with the resiliency they’ve shown this past year, and St. Mary’s prepared them incredibly well! They are a special group ready to make a difference in this world."

- Julie Larkin, SMCS Advisory Board Chair & Mom to Kieran (SMCS Class of '17) who is headed to University of Notre Dame this fall.

Keep an eye on our social media channels for more congratulatory news as alumni continue to make commitments to the colleges of their choice.
