Psychiatric Urgent Care Center
Serving our community since April 2019
This month the Psychiatric Urgent Care Center celebrates its second anniversary serving adults (ages 18+) in our community and across the state. We've been open daily for in person assessments throughout this past year. Plus, we continue to offer virtual assessments.

If you are referring a client experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms - like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, disturbing or suicidal thoughts, and substance use disorders - to our Psychiatric Urgent Care, please have them call ahead to 616.455.9200. This allows us to pre-screen for COVID-19, determine any additional requirements for their insurance, answer their questions and schedule for a video call, if preferred.

Managing Stress for a Healthy Family
April is Stress Awareness Month
Children model their parents’ behaviors including those related to managing stress. As a clinician, you know that parents who deal with stress in unhealthy ways risk passing those behaviors on to their children.

The American Psychological Association offers several valuable tips to provide guidance to your clients and get them started down a healthy path.

Teens Mental Health: Free Resources
Although teens may look mature, their brains aren’t fully adult until sometime in their 20s. During this final development, they are more vulnerable to mental illness and addiction.

We offer many online resources about the variety of teen behavioral health issues, how drugs affect the teen brain, warning signs, tips for parents, and how Pine Rest can help.

We invite you to share with your clients or organization our Understanding Teens brochure and articles. The printed version of Understanding Teens can be ordered online along with our other publications; please note the number of copies you'd like in the comments section.

Loneliness: Dr. Greg Mallis Participates in WGVU Panel with Shelley Irwin
“Loneliness is a huge issue that many of us are experiencing right now because of the isolation due to COVID,” says Dr. Mallis. The topic, ‘Breaking Loneliness,’ addressed the challenges teens may experience while seeking treatment due to stigma surrounding mental health.
