VBC in Military Times!

Caitlin O’Brien from the Military Times called the other day to ask what it’s like going viral on TikTok. I had to admit, most of our participants probably never noticed! An excellent article, nonetheless, on how the Veterans Breakfast Club uses TikTok to share war stories, foster community.

WWII Vintage Aircraft Ditches on a Florida Beach

It looked like an ordinary, if low, beach fly-by. But, instead, the WWII Navy TBM Avenger suffered engine failure on Saturday and ditched near shore while a beach-goer captured the event on video. No one was hurt, but the torpedo bomber will need to be rebuilt. You can view a great gallery of photos of its recovery here.

How Americans Captured a King Tiger Tank in WWII

Harry Miller joined us Monday night and shared the story about how his 740th Tank Battalion captured an elusive and formidable target: a German King Tiger (Tiger Royal Mark VI) tank. Tiger 332 was the only in-tact tank of its kind captured during the war, and it now resides at the Armored School at Fort Benning. Harry kindly shared with us his eyewitness account from Christmas Eve 1944, which you can read here.

Todd and Shaun host information hours with our VBC partner Humana on how you can get support as a caregiver at home. Presenting at this session will be Cindy Parsons from Wounded Warrior Project. In 2004, Cindy’s son, Shane, entered the United States Army and served honorably in a decorated infantry brigade. In 2006, he was critically injured in Iraq. After Shane returned home for treatment, Cindy became his caretaker and a strong advocate for wounded service members.
