A Note of Thanks!
Many, many thanks to the 90+ of you GUUF members who stayed with us at the Special Congregational Meeting for nearly two hours!  Yes, it was long; yes, it was a beautiful day when we all would have preferred to be outside; and, yes, we were not all in agreement on all items.  But the discussions were respectful of one another, and I hope most questions were answered.  And we maintained our quorum in order to transact important business for the Fellowship!

Special thanks to Bo Boghani, Pat Chaney, Lynn Cusick, Bibi Harris, Jennifer Kouyoumjian, Tommie Reece, and Kat Stellern for being willing to serve as our new ministerial search committee.  I think GUUF is in excellent hands as these folks begin their crucial work for us in looking for a settled, called minister to begin in summer 2022.

And here is a link to our newly revised Bylaws: https://bit.ly/32R81OA .  For those of you who were unable to attend, the new bylaws were passed by a vote of 81 in favor and 12 opposed.  Again, our deepest gratitude to the Bylaws Task Force, led by President-elect Howard Jones:  Tommie Reece, Jo Anne Hennigan, and Rev. Lisa Bovee-Kemper, who undertook a major overhaul of the 2012 bylaws, beginning nearly two years ago.

And thanks for all the technical help we had yesterday in running this meeting as a Zoom webinar:  Richard Nelson, who couldn’t be with us but who helped us with practice webinars to prepare; John Melson, who masterminded this webinar; Sarah Russell, who is our expert poll launcher and tabulator; Chris Corry, who assisted in making sure I didn’t miss seeing raised hands; Steve Compton, who served as our parliamentarian; and members of the Bylaws Task Force who served as panelists to answer questions.

Please mark your calendars NOW for our next annual Congregational Meeting, scheduled for Sunday, June 6, when we will meet to approve the budget for next year and to elect officers and committee chairs.  Here’s hoping that will be a shorter meeting!

UUWOC
Go OUTSIDE!

Never before have these words carried as much importance. After more than a year of isolation and quarantine, our children desperately need the power and healing that can only come from nature. No man-made playground can compare with the whole-body interaction that comes from climbing on trees, studying creatures in their natural habitats, testing how water reacts, and feeling the warmth of the sun. Studies have proven, time and again, that children who spend more time outside develop healthier in body and mind. Early childhood education programs around the world are finding that holding classes outside results in better educated students who remain more motivated and engaged.

Thanks to the dedicated and focused efforts of the teachers and staff of UU World of Children, our curriculum already understands this and have implemented these specific protocols. And our efforts have been recognized. UU World of Children is proud to have been chosen as a Grow Outdoors South Carolina Demonstration Site for 2021- 2023!  These programs will serve as a model for increasing young children’s access to quality, naturalized outdoor environments that support play and learning across all domains of development.  Grow Outdoors South Carolina is supported by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) and the ABC Quality program.

The staff at UUWOC recently took all of their bikes out of the shed to get them ready for the kiddos. Unfortunately, all the tires had rotted from the heat and storage last summer. If anyone has any children's bicycles that they would like to donate please contact the UU World Of Children

Many Thanks!
