Kick off New York Design Days NYCxDESIGN with a free virtual screening of the acclaimed documentary Gateways to New York (2018) on May 13 at 8pm. The film by Martin Witz tells the story of Swiss bridge builder Othmar H. Ammann who moved to New York as a young engineer and created some of New York’s most famous icons. The George Washington Bridge, one of his greatest visionary suspension bridges, will celebrate its 90 th anniversary this fall. Join us for welcome remarks before the film by Ambassador Markus Börlin, Consul General of Switzerland in New York, Gareth Brennan, president / founder of Eventscape, and Kyle Bergman, AIA, founder of ADFF, and stick around after the screening for a live conversation with Avinash Rajagopal, editor-in-chief of Metropolis, Kai-Uwe Bergmann, FAIA, partner at BIG and Claire Weisz, FAIA, Founding Partner at WXY.
