Friday the 23th April 2021
Welcome <<First Name>>,

Anzac Weekend gives us the opportunity to honour all our brave soldiers both present and past. Lucky for us it also gives us time with the family, to sleep in, at the lake and GARDEN!

Now the weather is cooling down, I will be adding an extra layer as I head outdoors and I know I said this last month, but April/ May are great months for planting! The soil is still warm, which is paramount for roots to get established before Winter creeps in.
Our 2021 Rose List is now available at the Garden Centre, listing our comprehensive range, arriving this Winter. You’ll be delighted with our carefully chosen varieties.

GARLIC
Traditionally garlic is planted on the shortest day and harvested on the longest day however, from now on anytime is a good time!  As with all crops, soil preparation is important.  Garlic is a gross feeder, so add lots of manure, compost, blood and bone, etc at least 2 weeks prior to planting. It is also a good idea to add some lime to the soil.
We have superb quality bulbs! Use the fattest cloves from the outside of the bulb. Eat the little ones!

Choose a sunny, sheltered spot and a different one each year to avoid disease! The two best, white 'Printinor' and  'Elephant' are in store now.

REMEMBER.... Ensure your Lemon and Lime trees are safe in their winter home!
Now is the last chance to get these hardy veggies planted and don’t forget to sow ‘Winter green crops’ in those empty spots. We recommend mustard and lupin for bumper Summer crops.
Also plant spring bulbs, divide perennials, have a good tidy up and mulch all bare ground!

We must farewell Lenore next week who has been part of our hardworking garden team. We thank her for her contribution and wish her luck for the future.

Happy gardening,
From The Lushingtons Team

DAPHNE
White 'Perfume Princess'

The sheer power of fragrance from such a compact shrub is hard to match at any time of year, let alone winter. Bring the perfume of the lovely Daphne to the whole room, with just one sprig!

HEUCHERA 'LIME MARMALADE'
This variety is more tolerant to sun than the darker Heucheras and the bright, fresh green foliage contrasts beautifully with mixed herbaceous plants and shrubs. This luscious evergreen also makes a dramatic plant for your patio pots.

 CORNUS 'GREENVALE'
The appealing cream coloured flowers, brushed with green begin to appear in early spring and continue into summer. The red berries that follow, are loved by birds and nestle amid attractive burgundy, Autumn foliage.
A very special Dogwood 'Greenvale' is semi-deciduous and makes an excellent privacy screen to 4m, or a unique, small specimen tree.

PRETTY PERENNIAL PRIMULA
These Lovely 'Sweet 16' Primulas have arrived to bring a fresh new look to your borders and pots! Posies of big generous blooms surrounded by luscious green leaves will keep on, keeping on to brighten your winter.
