RA position

Location: UK

RA position for a diversity audit of UK UG Economics degrees. Will suit a 3rd year UG/PG student who can work in the UK and is interested in diversity/decolonisation. Relevant fields of study by candidates include Politics, Economics, Philosophy, History. Some quantitative/qualitative research experience required. People of colour candidates particularly encouraged to apply. Successful RA can work flexibly across 43hrs approximately depending on qualification for around £1000, but research must be completed by 31st July 2021. 

They are trying to systematically take stock of the degree to which UK undergraduate Economics programmes include women, non-white or non-Western thinkers and engage with issues of colonialism, race and gender. The audit will feed into a larger project around the causal factors that perpetuate unbalanced colonialised curricula, the extent to which these have common roots in both politics/economics/the effects such unbalanced curricula have on students especially courses with many BAME students.

Research Associate (quantitative)
What works for children's social care (WWCSC)
Location: London

The role will be focusing on quantitative impact evaluations in the children's social care and education space. What works for children's social care (WWCSC) is a research centre dedicated to improving outcomes for children, families and social workers in the UK.  This research aims to help understand how best to support social workers and young people in contact with the care system, from the point of contact and referral, all the way through to foster care and adoption. Among other responsibilities, the research associate will work on the research design of RCTs and quasi-experimental approaches, research management and implementation and coding and statistical analysis. Familiarity with STATA or R is required.

Data Scientist - Research & Economics (Earnings, Special Projects, and Mobility Research)
Uber

Location: San Francisco, California

The policy data scientists support Uber's policy issue experts around the world, equipping them with data to support their public policy positions. The Economics team produces in-house research and collaborates with world-leading academics to understand their marketplace and improve their product.

Earnings:
The Earnings team primarily focuses on analysing take-home pay for drivers and delivery people, evangelizing this knowledge, and engaging with teams across the company on earnings-related products, public-facing earnings claims, and more.

Special Projects:
The Special Projects team is responsible for addressing the thorniest policy and business challenges impacting Uber globally, taking into account competitive, legal, operational, and product considerations and helping leadership weigh each of these when in opposition.

Mobility Research:
The Mobility Research team works to understand Uber's impact on urban mobility and transportation systems, build sources of truth for local Policy & Comms teams, and collaborate with academics on robust original research.

Senior Analyst
Scottish Fiscal Commission
Location: Edinburgh, UK


This high-profile Senior Analyst (C1) post in the Scottish Fiscal Commission leads the production of the official estimates of social security spending for the Scottish Budget (over £3.6 billion). You will lead the team to model and forecast existing and brand new devolved social security payments. You will explain this complex work clearly, and represent the Commission with partner organisations and at events.

Quantitative Researchers
The Behavioural Insights Team
Location: London/Manchester, but currently working from home in the UK


BIT are looking for 4 new Research Advisors in the following teams:
-   Equality, Diversity and Inclusion - Based in London
-   Consumers & Business - Based in London
-  Local Places & Communities - Based in London or Manchester
- Associate Research Advisor in the Energy & Sustainability team – Based in London

The role in the Local Places and Communities team is slightly different, so you will also be doing things like:
-    Designing and implementing mixed method evaluations, pilot evaluations and implementation and process evaluations; and
-    Integrating and analysing of quantitative and qualitative data.

The role in the Energy and Sustainability team is at Associate Research Advisor level. This means that you will have support from other researchers on projects and may not be an expert in R or Stata....yet! This may be your first time in this type of role but you will still be doing plenty of interesting research work on a variety of different projects.

They are looking for people who understand what they do, share the values and are keen to learn and develop their expertise.

Visa requirement: You will need to have the right to work in the UK in order to be able to undertake this role. All applicants short-listed for an interview will be asked to provide evidence of their right to work during the recruitment process. If you do not have the right to work for BIT but are the most suitable person for the role, they will explore with you whether sponsorship may be an option. However, this may not be possible for all roles.
