May 2021 Newsletter
Welcome to the Breaston Pre-School May Newsletter!
We hope that you and your families are able to make the most of the slightly warmer weather this month, even if it means dodging a few showers!
This month's newsletter includes information on staffing changes, how to submit your session allocation requests for September, a couple of thank you's, and a reminder of how you can help us with fundraising!

Welcome Back Children Who Attend Multiple Settings!
We're really looking forward to welcoming back the children who attend multiple childcare settings this month! As the UK (hopefully!) moves into Step 3 of the Roadmap out of Lockdown, the committee made the decision to allow children to attend who attend another setting back into Pre-School. Our other COVID-19 policies will remain in place for the time being, until we feel that it is safe enough to relax them also. We thank you for your continued cooperation.
Suncream
As the weather is starting to warm up we wanted to send a reminder of our suncream policy. If suncream is required, please apply to your child BEFORE attending Pre-School.
If your child is with us all day, please supply a bottle of suncream clearly labelled with your child's name for us to reapply after lunch for the afternoon session. We also ask that you send your child in with an appropriate sun hat. Please do not send your child in with sunglasses as we cannot accept any responsibility if they get broken or lost.
Session Allocation for September 2021
It's time to request your child's sessions for September! Priority is given to current Pre-School children over new starters, but please note that we cannot guarantee that all your required sessions will be available. Please submit your request by following this link, no later than Friday 28th May. Otherwise, we may not be able to offer you the sessions that you have requested. If you have more than one child that will be attending Pre-School in September, please submit one form per child. Sarah will contact you with confirmation of your child's session allocation before the end of the Summer term.

Want to enrol a younger sibling, or know someone else who wants their child to attend Pre-School? Get in touch with Sarah ASAP as we have a waiting list for September enrollment and we'd hate for anyone to miss out on a place.
 Staff Changes
We are delighted to announce that we have a new member of staff at Pre-School! Leonnie has joined us as we currently have the maximum number of children in almost every session, making all of our keyworkers very busy! Leonnie is an experienced level 3 childcare practitioner and she cannot wait to get to know all of the children at Pre-School!

Sadly, we also have to announce that Amy will be leaving us on Friday 21st May. While she loves working at Pre-School, Amy has found the commute difficult and has found another job closer to home, allowing her to spend more time with her young son. We thank Amy for her hard work during the time that she has spent with us, and wish her all the best in her new job. Amy's position has been advertised and interviewed for, and we hope to announce another new member of staff shortly.
Thank You!
Thank you to everyone for getting on board with snack invoicing and for paying your invoices. While we preferred the voluntary donation method for collecting snack monies it simply wasn't working any more and this is the simplest way to ensure that we can provide a consistently high standard of tasty and healthy snacks and snack-based activities for the children. Any issues with paying your invoice, please contact finance@breastonpreschool.com

Secondly, we would like to thank everyone who has been making resource donations. The list remains the same this month at the time of writing, but please check the list on the box for the latest information. If you cannot see the box at drop off/pick up, please ask the member of staff on the door.

 Messy Clothing
If your child comes out of Pre-School with paint in their hair, mud on their trousers, and yoghurt down their top, then think about what a wonderful day they must have had! They've obviously been creating wonderful masterpieces with paint, getting plenty of fresh air and exercise outside, and learning to independently feed themselves at Lunch Club.

We encourage our children to get stuck in and learn through play, and for Pre-School aged children it is often the messy activities that they enjoy the most! We can guarantee that your child will not have been bored or spent their day doing sit down work.

You might be worried that your child got messy while they weren't being properly cared for. Please be assured that your child's keyworker - and all the staff at Pre-School - have been supervising your child throughout the day. Your child's keyworker knows your child's interests and needs, have spent time planning a challenging activity for them and the other children, run around putting aprons on everyone involved (and trying to encourage them to keep them on!), AND worried that you might be concerned about the paint in their hair!

We understand that parents/carers have paid good money for the clothes that their children wear, and yes, that red paint might not come out easily. We ALWAYS encourage children to wear aprons for messy activities, but it's not always possible to protect their clothing entirely.

Please ensure that your child wears clothes that you are happy for them to get messy!
Forest School
As you may be aware, we are still searching for a suitable local site for our Forest School site. We need to be able to develop and manage the land, making a fire pit, log seating, fences, and planting trees. If anyone can help, please let us know!
Please note that we have already spoken to Firfield with regards to using the 'field of dreams'.
 Fundraising
As restrictions start to relax and the weather begins to warm up, the fundraising committee are turning their thoughts towards a Summer fundraiser. If you have any fundraising ideas, or would like to join our no-commitment Fundraising Committee then please let Committee Secretary Kayleigh know.

If you don't already then please consider using Amazon Smile, Amazon's charity platform that gives a small donation to Pre-School for almost everything that you buy on Amazon, at no extra cost to you! Simply visit https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1040643-0 to get started! Once you're enrolled, you can switch your mobile app to generate donations too, just by finding the 'Smile' programme in the sidebar.

Another easy way to generate FREE donations for Pre-School is by signing up to Easy Fundraising. Over 4,000 shops and sites will donate to us when you use easyfundraising to shop with them online – at no extra cost to yourself! These donations really mount up and make a BIG difference to us, so we’d really appreciate it if you could take a moment to sign up and support us. It’s completely FREE and only takes a moment.
You can find our easyfundraising page at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/breastonpresch/?utm_campaign=raise-more&utm_content=gs-e1

As always, we thank you for your continued support of our fundraising efforts. Every penny raised goes towards improving resources and equipment for the children at Pre-School.

Stay safe and take care,
Breaston Pre-School
