When was the last time you took the scenic route,...on purpose? We often look for the fastest way to move from one place to another. But if we want to discover the true beauty of our great country, we are going to have to pull off the freeway.
Some of life’s greatest discoveries lay waiting for us just off the beaten path.
A number of years ago I turned off the beaten path. I discovered a little short cut across Scott County to get to my home town. As I got off the freeway I quickly noticed a tiny town that was exploding with new growth. But with all this new growth, there was only one (visible) church in the community. That day God began to stir in me a new discovery, a calling, to one day return and start a church for the people of Elko New Market who did not have a church of their own.
What do we miss when we fail to slow down? What new discoveries await us on our journey? Are we ready to receive the blessings God has for us along the way?
One of the greatest gifts God gives us is family. Kids grow up fast. Before we know it, they will be out of the house starting families of their own. But this weekend gives us a great opportunity to slow down, to enjoy the views along the way, and to give God thanks for the people who brought us into this world and nurtured us, and the ones we share the journey with.
