May 2021
We are beginning to wind down our professional development activities and we are reflecting on the year that has passed. The Anglophone Community on the Après-cours website is worth a look-see and the RÉCIT FGA  Annual Review will be published shortly.

Recent activities

EPC Après-cours

The EPC-APC Anglophone and Science Communities

It is certainly getting hard to keep track of all of the Aprés-cours FGA workshops available to the Anglophone sector. Our partner, Richard Painchaud, the brains behind Après-cours, can barely keep up with us. Here is a summary of the last ones and what is in store in the next two months! You can view all of them on the Après-cours website.

April 14, 2021: The SI community got together to discuss Learning and Evaluation Situations relating to sexuality. You can find that on the Anglophone Community space.

April 16, 2021: The tireless Micheline Ammar (Équipe-choc Pedagogical) hosted the first Science Community APC workshop on General Science 4059 and 4060.
April 22, 2021: Yoyo Kwok enlightened our lunchtime participants on work space ergonomics. You can see her in action right here.

Save the Dates!

May 21, 2021: The Science Community will be holding a General Science discussion targeting the TGS-4060 laboratory component. The workshop will be from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm.

May 26, 2021: Sara Chenette from WQSB will lead a workshop in the Anglophone Community about planning for student success in a hybrid situation. This workshop will be from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Screen Fatigue Solutions

EPC-APC follow up

Following along the lines of Dr. Jewel Perlin’s March 29 workshop, here are two helpful web pages that show how to change your display settings on your PC or Mac to shift from blue light to a warmer light, which helps to decrease screen fatigue symptoms. The images below are clickable links.

AQIFGA

The Gathertown experience

Avi, Marc and our fantastic francophone counterpart, Marie-Ève Ste-Croix gave a bilingual workshop at AQIFGA (Association québécoise des intervenantes et des intervenants en formation générale des adultes) entitled: “Les changements constructifs in our practice en 2021”.

We spent most of our time in a relatively new video conferencing site called Gathertown. Gathertown allows for multiple and spontaneous conversations. Since you move a small avatar around in a top down video game perspective, the movement from one conversation to the next is quite organic. You can also add interactive elements (websites, presentations and the like) within the virtual environment.

One of our participants said that the workshop was her “coup de coeur” of the conference!

Here is an example of the power of Gathertown hosted by our RÉCIT VT colleague, James Burn. Gather 21 Ace

Drop us a line at recitage@gmail.com and we will be happy to find the time to give you a guided tour of some of our virtual environments.

Emilie’s picks

Emilie attended two workshops on PRS options courses: Citoyenneté à l'ère du numérique and La sexualité dans toutes ses dimensions. Though the resources are in French, they can provide inspiration for how to structure course content using Google Sites. You can easily add Youtube videos, Slide presentations (with audio recordings), Forms, and other interactive content to a site to make for an engaging learning experience for your students.

News from the Network

Hot off the presses!

La revue annuelle RÉCIT FGA will be released in the coming weeks. This year there will be English language content throughout the online magazine. We are very proud to be part of this project and we hope that you will enjoy it. You can find it on the RÉCIT FGA website.

Dossiers spéciaux

Get well soon, Giovanna!

We are truly going to miss our dear colleague, Giovanna as she convalesces over the next few months. Giovanna was the anchor that grounded us to the teaching reality during the pandemic this year. Having her in your corner is like having Ali, Gates, and Marconi all rolled into one. She has the strength of her convictions, a vision for the future, and technological knowledge to boot.

It is all for the best as she will find a new spring in her step when she returns to the RÉCIT AGE fold. We wish you a speedy recovery, Giovanna.

Mesure 15081

It is once again time to submit proposals relating to to receive funds for projects under mesure 15081. Here are a few pointers to help those who have an innovative digital technology project just waiting to be launched.

Here are a few pointers:

  • School boards can submit more than one project and several school boards can work together on the same project.

  • Principals, directors, and DGs are responsible for filling out the form on Collectinfo.

  • Responses by the MEQ are sent by regular mail to the principal, director, or DG.

  • No more than $20,000 are allotted and a maximum of $1,000 can be used for materials. Projects asking for more than $1,000 for materials will be rejected automatically.

  • Money that we allotted for the 2020-2021 school year can be rolled over into 2021-2022

See this folder for more information: Mesure 15081 documents
