Principal's Message

Good Afternoon, Parents and Guardians.

Happy Mother's Day! I hope you all will be having a special day being celebrated by family and loved ones. Monday, we will be bringing more students back to campus. Those of you whose child will be joining us, should have received another email from me this morning. Remember, you can't just bring your child to school without first completing the survey. So, if you didn't get a notice, your child cannot begin on Monday.

The days are hot now. We have given water bottles to each of the students back on campus. Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle to school each day. We have a bottle refill station on campus, but due to COVID restrictions we don't have water fountains. The water bottles are important. If they have lost them, you can swing by the dollar store and pick one up for a dollar.

If you have questions, please reach out to our office staff at NMSvirtual@natomasunified.org.

In the spirit of service,

Principal Baker

HOW TO PROPERLY WEAR A MASK

For the mask to be the most effective, it must fit as snugly as possible to the face, covering the chin, mouth and nose up to the nose bridge. The mask should not be below the nose or worn at the tip of their nose. The mask should fit tightly against the face.

STUDENTS WHO REPEATEDLY DO NOT WEAR THEIR MASK AT ALL OR CORRECTLY WILL BE REMOVED FROM IN-PERSON LEARNING AND PLACED BACK ON DISTANCE LEARNING.

Community Message for Self-Screening

As we continue to transition children to return to our school campuses, we wanted to share some helpful resources.

  • Screen-at-Home Checklist: All schools in Sacramento County are participating in the Screen-at-Home Campaign. This is an important part of keeping our schools safe and healthy.  Please remember to take your child’s temperature each morning and screen for COVID-19 symptoms prior to coming to school. If the following apply, do not come to school:

    • Temperature (at or above 100.1 degrees), cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, congestion/runny nose, new loss of taste or smell, fatigue, muscle or body aches, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea

    • When to Stay Home - Symptoms Checklist

COVID-19 Testing: Natomas Unified School District is offering free COVID-19 testing to ALL students, staff and families every Tuesday at the Natomas Unified School District Service Center located at 1931 Arena Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95834.  Click here to register for a COVID-19 test

ENSURING YOUR CHILD'S SUCCESS IN DISTANCE LEARNING

Here are some tips to help your child succeed during distance learning.

  • Make it a norm in your home to have your student attend class daily with video on. We cannot ensure your child is learning if we cannot ensure they are there. Many turn off their video and don't respond when called on, indicating they are not there.
  • Make sure your child is out of bed, sitting up in a quiet place. Please do your best to remove distractions from around your child during the school day.
  • Check your child's Google Classroom daily for assignments, work returned, and missing work. Seeing that they submitted an assignment is not enough. Too many students are submitting blank assignments to give the appearance that they did the work or submitting partially done work. Incomplete work will be returned by the teachers.
  • If your child is struggling, have them attend teacher office hours for support. All teachers have one hour of office hours daily immediately after school.
  • Sign your child up for additional tutoring through the after school program or NUSD virtual tutoring program. (see message below)
If you can ensure these things are happening, our teachers can better support your child's learning. As always, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or an admin if you need assistance.

IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, GET SIGNED UP FOR INFINITE CAMPUS TODAY!

The following is the account creation process for parents/guardians:

  • Each Monday, NUSD will generate Portal usernames and passwords for new parent/guardians.  An activation notice with the URL, username, and password will be sent to the parent/guardian at the email address they have on file in Infinite Campus (comes from donotreply...check your spam).
  • These activation notices expire each week, so new activation notices will also be sent each Monday to existing users who have not yet activated their accounts. If you don't get a notice, that means you already have an established account.
  • Parents/guardians will be prompted to set a new password and to establish security settings so that they can reset a forgotten password.

Principal's Message

Good Afternoon, Parents and Guardians.

Thank you to all of you who got school supplies for your children. We have seen many more of our scholars show up with the right equipment to succeed this week. Trust me it makes a difference. I have a couple more things I would like each of you to help us out with.

One of the reasons many of our scholars struggled during the distance learning period was lack of organization skills. To support organization skills, at NMS have always given the students a daily planner to write what they did in the class that day and their homework for that night. We have each student who returned to campus a planner on day one. Please check your students planner each night to ensure they have completed it.

Lastly, it is getting hot outside. Keeping our students hydrated is important. Due to COVID safety procedures, we don't have water fountains on campus this year. We do have a water fill station on campus, so that students can fill up water bottles. We gave each student on campus a water bottle (white with blue top). Many of our students are forgetting to bring them daily. Please remind your child to bring their water bottle or one of their own to school daily.

NMS LATE BUS
Last week, we sent out an email advising of restarting our late bus. We sent out a survey asking for interest in the late bus. We only got one response back. So at this time, we are putting the late bus on hold until there is more interest.

If you are interested in having your child stay for 2:00-3:00PM for After School Tutoring, please complete this survey, indicating on which days your child will stay after school.

As a reminder, there are only 25 spots on the late bus. They are given away each week on a first come first served basis according to our responses on the above survey.

NMS LATE BUS IS BACK!
Beginning this week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, NMS will be offering After School Tutoring again. Tutoring will be held in a teacher's classroom. Here's what we need our parents to do:
1. On this survey, indicate on which days your child will stay after school.
2. If your child will need to ride the bus, indicate that on the survey. The Late Bus will depart NMS at 3 PM.

If they don't need a bus, there is nothing for you to complete. You will need to pick your child up at 3 PM. Be in communication with your child's teachers to arrange that tutoring before the week. As a reminder, there are only 25 spots on the late bus. They are given away each week on a first come first served basis according to our responses on the above survey.

We have each student who returned to campus a planner on day one. Please check your students planner each night to ensure they have completed it.

We do have a water fill station on campus, so that students can fill up water bottles. We gave each student on campus a water bottle (white with blue top). Many of our students are forgetting to bring them daily. Please remind your child to bring their water bottle or one of their own to school daily.

INFINITE CAMPUS
