Monday 10th May, 2021

Ngā mihi mahana e te whānau - warm greetings to our Bradford whanau!

We have had a wonderful start to the term with the kids well and truly back into the routine.  The bike track is getting lots of use in the autumn weather we've been enjoying!  It is incredible to see the huge development in the children's confidence, skill and fitness from the daily use of the track.  Hard to believe that when we first opened the track in March that many found the uphill and little hard going, now most are powering up it!

Our Student School Council have been busy planning for a Children's Market Day here at school on May 21st.  Children will have the opportunity to have a trading space where they bring in old toys or books they no longer play with to trade with others.  The Council is also organising a pre-order BBQ, Bake Stall, some fun activities such as Sponge the Teacher (Ssshhhh!  Don't tell the teachers!)  as well as a mini Talent Fest and some fun games.   No activity will be over $1; to save children having to hold onto money for the day, the council will sell tickets on the morning of the Market Day in the foyer $5 = 5 tickets, $10 = 10 tickets, the children can then spend their tickets on any of the games and activities on offer.  The council are raising funds towards a set of playground swings.

Bradford Hoodies available - $45 each  With the weather cooling slightly it has prompted us to do another order run for Bradford School Hoodies!
Hoodies are available in sizes 6 to 14 and adults size small and medium.  They are great quality, look smart, and are super comfy!  If you would like a hoodie, please put $45 into the school account with your child's name and size.  e.g. Jill14 and fill in the order form at this link: https://forms.gle/sDurT1toYPiU2LqR6
Orders close on May 28th.

This week a number of staff are attending Professional Learning with Structured Literacy guru Liz Kane.  We welcome guest teachers Mrs Kay (Room 6), Mr Lim (Room 5), Mrs Jackson (Room 4) and Mrs MacLennan (Room 1).

Have a wonderful week everyone,

Melissa and the Bradford Team
Our school has been successful in an application in gaining funding for a social worker from STAND to come into our school once a week to facilitate Sunshine Circles.  Brooke Garner is a trained social worker and this programme teaches children awareness of their energy levels, regulations strategies as well as building social skills.  Sunshine Circles has 4 cornerstones to the programme which include Nurture, Engagement, Challenge and Structure.  It fits in beautifully with our learning on the Zones of Regulation and Rock and Water skills and will further develop understanding and awareness for children.
