CLICK & ACT: JOIN OUR
READY, SET, SAIL CAMPAIGN

Hello <<First Name>>

Today our industry steps up the fight for a resumption of cruising in our region, issuing a rallying cry for supporters to get behind our new Ready, Set, Sail campaign.
To launch the campaign, CLIA has created a new online action centre at www.ReadySetSail.com.au which allows you to message politicians quickly and easily. With a few clicks, users can generate instant emails to local MPs and key Ministers or personalise a message to tell of their own story.

The aim is to reinforce CLIA’s lobbying efforts and highlight the impact the cruise suspension has had on thousands of local businesses and 18,000 workers. While the initial campaign targets political leaders in Australia, we are also continuing to lobby in New Zealand and encourage our Kiwi members to keep in touch with their own local parliamentarians.
The suspension of cruising has already cost our region more than $5 billion and these losses can’t be stemmed without government action. CLIA and its cruise line members have outlined extensive new health protocols to governments and have held detailed discussions about our vision for a careful and responsible resumption of domestic cruising. After months of talks, the time has come for governments to agree on a path forward.

CLIA and our cruise line members continue to work tirelessly on achieving a resumption, but we need your support. Visit www.ReadySetSail.com.au now and help show politicians how critical cruising is to our local communities and economy.

Stay Safe,

Joel Katz
Managing Director, CLIA Australasia

COVID-19 UPDATE

CLIA has been working with the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to include the cruise industry’s vision for a resumption of domestic cruising in its new ‘Reopening Australia’ document, which outlines measures for reviving the national economy in the wake of COVID-19. This document has been shared with the Prime Minister and other senior government ministers.

The document provides extensive recommendations to government on how to achieve stronger economic and jobs outcomes while continuing to manage health risks, particularly as Australia extends its vaccine roll-outs.

As well as making recommendations on domestic tourism, ACCI highlights the cruise industry’s extensive new health protocols and sets out priorities for resumption. In particular, it recommends the Australian Government:
  • Re-commence domestic expedition cruises (such as those that normally operate in the Kimberley or Queensland coast) irrespective of whether the vessel is Australian or foreign-owned and flagged, as the first stage of cruise restart. This is an important component of domestic tourism recovery, particularly in regional NT and WA communities usually serviced by these expedition ship operators.
  • Finalise the framework for broader cruise resumption as soon as possible, so that cruise lines and the extensive supply chain can begin planning for the pathway to cruise restart in the second half of 2021 to provide certainty to the more than 18,000 Australian jobs supported by cruise, and the more than $5 billion in economic activity cruise delivers across multiple travel, tourism, and supply sectors.
