Message from the Chair.

Kristy Christie

Dear <<First Name>>

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind! After 6 months of planning, three IABC Regions (Africa, APAC and EMENA) came together to host our first ever virtual IABC Converge Conference. We had over 100 communicators from 24 countries exchange ideas, share advice and discuss topics that were crowd sourced from attendees.

It gave us all great joy to watch as people actively participated at virtual roundtables, or were excited about the cultural breaks that featured incredibly talented IABC members like Subhamoy Das (India) with his rendition of Autumn Leaves, and interviews with Kazuko Kotaki (Japan) and Sola Abulu (Nigeria) on their cultures and way of life. It was so well received, that we are releasing the entire "IABC Converge Cultural Breaks" playlist for your enjoyment.

For the planning team, receiving feedback that Converge was "ahead of the curve", "the best global online conference", had "exceptional execution", was "truly terrific" as well as being an example of how there's "nothing like a conference run by communication professionals for communication professionals", was incredibly rewarding.

In my view, Converge is a success because it attempts to mirror what IABC as an association is all about - the ability to connect and collaborate with professional communicators from around the globe, to enable us to create something far better than we could have ever achieved as individuals.

In the continued spirit of collaboration, IABC India and APAC also jointly hosted a session with mental wellbeing expert Julie Gillespie, on spotting the signs of stress and burnout, and learning ways to help cope. Even as my own state reinstates restricted movement, my heart is with the Indian community and all who continue to face the daily heartache of a pandemic that rages on. Thank you to all who attended and to Julie for having volunteered her time.

I'm also pleased to announce that we have a date for our next Annual General Meeting (AGM) and it will be held on 22nd June. We hope to see you there, so please block the date out in your calendars and look out for the notice in early June. Thank you again for being part of the IABC community!

Warm Regards,

Kristy Christie, SCMP
Chair IABC Asia Pacific
