What a fabulous weekend we had at our first in person Rally in over a year! The Dressage Rally at the beautiful Devonwood Equestrian Centre was a huge success! We had nine teams participate, representing nine different clubs and centers, including a few catch teams (teams with members from different clubs). We also had 14 competitors for whom this was their first ever (in person) rally! Thanks to our sponsors, Gallops Saddlery and Irideon Riding Wear for providing prizes. A huge thank you goes out to all of the parent and Pony Club community volunteers. As I've said before, we simply cannot put on a rally without the support of many volunteers so THANK YOU for showing up and helping out.

Speaking of volunteers, your next opportunity to show your support for Pony Club is our annual fundraiser at the Inavale One-Days event June 4-6th. This is the only fundraiser the Oregon Region asks for your support with and it is VERY important for our annual budget. As a Region, we provide all of the volunteers needed to run the two 1-Day Events and in return, Inavale pays the region for our collective effort. The Region depends on this revenue to help put on our annual events throughout the year (for more information on what exactly this funding is used for, contact Michele Stevens, Region Treasurer). We really do need EVERYONE's support with this! It is a always a fun weekend with a lot of Pony Club friends and lots of excellent riding to watch. If you, your child or your friend is competing in the One Days, you can and should volunteer for at least one shift. So be on the look out very soon for a SignUp Genius to sign up for your preferred volunteer job. Sign up early to get the job and the time slot you want. There is something for everyone! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Does Your Club Want to Host a Summer Camp?

The cost would be $200 a day which includes the cost of 1 porta potty and around 15 horses for a weekend. Bigger groups would be fine but would need to rent another porta potty. Naomi will have cross county jumps and stalls prepared but the camp organizers will have to be responsible for stadium jumps and dressage arena etc.

If your club is interested in hosting a summer camp at Meadows Vineyard, please contact Naomi Meadows at  naomimeadows@hotmail.com

Congrats to Our
Graduating Seniors!!

Nora Bissonette:  Jumps and Jodhpurs, Member for 4 years, C1 HM, D3 Eventing.

Nora is graduating early from South Eugene HS. Nora has taught some D level members in her pony club and talked to potential members about joining pony club. Nora’s favorite part of pony club has been going to upper level clinics, pony club championships, and Pony Club Summer camp at Meadows Vineyard Outside of Pony Club, Nora enjoys camping, hiking, and singing. Pony Club has taught her it is ok to follow your instincts and politely challenge authority. Nora will attend Oregon State University in the fall as a Chemistry major in the Honors College. She is also excited to join their Eventing team.

Ellie Blythe:  Highland Riders Pony Club, C1 HM, D3 Flat, D2 Eventing

Abby Frank: Rose City Pony Club, Member for 10 years, HB-HM, C1 Flat & Dressage, D3 Eventing

Abby is graduating from Southridge HS. In Pony Club, Abby has taught lessons, been an examiner, participated in camps and rallies every year and has gone to National Championships several times. She has too many wonderful memories to pick a favorite!  Outside of Pony Club, Abby is the head coach for Rose City Rhythmic gymnastics, is the President of the Sustainability Club at her high school, involved in the Fashion club, and Student Government. She also enjoys baking, painting, reading, and journaling.  Pony Club has taught Abby how to be independent and how to set and achieve goals. She has learned discipline and respect for authority, as well as how to be prompt and organized as well as how to advocate for herself and others. After high school Abby will take a gap year of international adventure travel including 3 months in Nepal and Tibet, a month in New York City volunteering with sustainable food advocates, a week in Peru studying ecotourism, and two months hiking and camping in the National Parks of the west. In the fall of 2022, Abby will attend the Honors College at Purdue University, majoring in aerospace engineering.

Tess Hegarty: Patton Valley Pony Club, Member for 4 years, C2HM, D3 Eventing.

Tess is graduating from Riverdale HS. Tess was hooked on Pony Club after her first time going to the Pony Club summer camp at Meadows Vineyard. Camp and rallies continue to be the sources of all of her favorite memories in Pony Club. Outside of Pony Club, Tess runs the Environment Club at her school, does Model UN, and she works at Wilco. Pony Club has taught her how to teach others and to be a good leader as well as to be responsible. In the fall, Tess plans to study international relations and environmental studies with a minor in Spanish.

Vanessa is graduating from River HomeLink HS. Vanessa has attended a lot of rallies, summer camp, regional lessons and was on the Youth Board for a little bit. She also has taught some lessons with her previous club. Vanessa’s favorite memory comes from rallies and being on catch teams with other clubs. She had so much fun getting to know other people and working positively as a team. Outside of pony club, Vanessa enjoys coding and programming, painting, photography, and arts & crafts. Pony Club has taught Vanessa that age is only a number - you can learn from anyone at any age, and anyone can be a great teacher. Vanessa will attend Clark Community College possibly pursuing a major in marketing.

Emma McKie:  Iron Horse Riding Center Pony Club, Member for 5 years, C1 Eventing

Emma is graduating from Ida B Wells HS. Outside of Pony Club, Emma plays the clarinet and enjoys hiking. Her favorite memory from Pony Club was the second (not the first) rally she went to because it was the first time she was mostly just overwhelmed the whole time, but at her second rally, she felt like she knew more about what was going on and thus had a great time!  Something unexpected Pony Club has taught Emma is to be more confident  about assisting and teaching others and being more willing to accept others’ help. Next year, Emma will be attending Portland Community College to start her path to a nursing degree.

Hannah Rhylick:  Mt Hood Pony Club, Member for 5 years, D3 Eventing

Hannah is graduating from Hood River Valley HS. Hannah’s hobbies include show jumping and eventing as well as skiing. She teaches mounted and unmounted lessons to younger members in Pony Club. Her favorite memories include the opportunity to ride in upper level clinics with Terri Rocovish and Asia Thayer and Pony Club camp in 2017. Through Pony Club, Hannah has gained valuable leadership experience and learned how better to achieve her goals. Hannah plans to take a gap year and be a working student after she graduates.

Grace Schreiber: Mt Hood Pony Club, Member for 7 years, C1 Eventing

Grace has participated in Pony Club Camp, many rallies, and even got to go to Show Jump Championships in 2018. One memorable moment was when her horse got stuck in a fence at Camp one year and her awesome team shared their horses so she could still ride. Also Pony Club Championships was an amazing experience. Grace also has ridden outside of Pony Club at Inavale and Lincoln Creek Horse Trials. Grace will be attending Oregon State University next year and starting the Pre-Vet program.

Mikayla Stout: Rose City Pony Club, Member for 9 years, HB-HM, C2 Eventing

She enjoys competing in rallies, participating in upper level clinics, serving as an examiner for certifications, and teaching both mounted and unmounted lessons. She has served on the Oregon Region Youth board for 5 years as Secretary, Vice President, and now President. She has gone to National Championships several times for both Quiz and Dressage. Outside of Pony Club, Mikayla volunteers at Forward Stride, is a member of the Environmental Action Team and the Feminism club at Catlin Gabel, she ran for Varsity cross country at Catlin Gabel, and was the President of the CENTER Youth Collective. Mikayla enjoys reading, doing art and making jewelry, thrifting, running, hiking, camping, and skiing. Some of Mikayla’s favorite memories from Pony Club include attending National Championships several times, riding at Kentucky Horse Park at Festival Championships, Pony Club summer camp at Nancy McKnight’s and Meadows Vineyard, upper level clinics, and of course all the rallies. Through Pony Club Mikayla has made amazing friends and learned so many useful skills such as leadership, teamwork, and the value of working hard to achieve your goals. She is currently studying for her HA which she plans to take this summer and hopes to take the C3 soon as well. In the fall, Mikayla will be going to Scripps College in Claremont, CA possibly majoring in sociology, or biology.

CLUB NEWS

Highland Riders PC: The past month has been a busy one for HRPC! Several of our members attended and thoroughly enjoyed the Regional HM Clinic at Adnara Equestrian Center. We also sent two teams to the Dressage Rally, which was a great learning experience for all our members. May will be all about preparing for our upcoming certification day. Welcome to our newest members Camille and Izzi!

Oregon Trail PC:  Oregon Trail had a bustling and fun-filled month preparing for dressage rally!  We dusted off the rally kits, got in extra lessons, deep cleaned tack, pulled manes, and gave the first baths of the season!  Thank goodness for those warmer days leading up to rally!  Purposeful club fundraising in 2020 provided a great opportunity to purchase items to upgrade the club’s rally kit, including clear storage containers, garment and duffle bags for personal items, and better labeling and signage. The enhanced organization and attention to detail enabled the team to easily find what they needed throughout the rally and improve their overall coordination and presentation. Tayte (Captain), Lauren, Kaylie, and Lucy (SM) warmly welcomed Stephanie Oliviera from PVPC to the team! The OTPC/PVPC team had a successful weekend and placed first in both horse management and overall!  We celebrate your exceptional horsemanship, sportsmanship, teamwork and triumphs!

Tayte and Lauren, also members of the ORUSPC Youth Board, had the special opportunity to recognize graduating seniors at dressage rally with keepsake gifts -- a lucky horseshoe necklace and a "Horses leave hoofprints on your heart" throw pillow.  Seniors, we have all learned so much from your positive examples over the years and we hope your next adventures provide as many memories as you've given to us!

Congratulations and best wishes
Abby, Ellie, Emma, Grace S, Grace W, Hannah, Mikayla, Nora, Tess, and Vanessa! 💕

Rose City PC: Rose City had a fun and successful Dressage Rally, where most members participated. Tracy Stout did a fantastic job of organizing all of us and we appreciate her! Thank you to all the parents/sponsors who worked to make this be a great success! Mikayla Stout certified members for Fox Hills and Ava Hacke and Mikayla Strout participated in the recent HM seminar at Adnara Equestrian Center. Ava also participated in the mounted lesson at Devonwood. Mikayla looks forward to riding at Innavale.

Willamette Valley Pony Club: Willamette Valley Pony Club is happy to welcome three new members to our club. Audrey & Jonny, Addison & Sage, and Josslyn & Paris all recently joined. Two of them attended the regional lesson in April and two attended the Dressage Rally - great way to get started! WVPC has recently moved to another facility to hold our club days, now currently riding at Wintercreek Stables in Aumsville and we thank them very much for working with the club. We are currently working on putting together a Dressage Clinic with Heather Oleson to be held at Wintercreek Stables. Once this is finalized we will get the information out and hope both Pony Club members and non-members will be interested in participating in this.

After college, she bought her very first horse herself (Bren) and continued in eventing and eventually landing a teaching and managing job at a barn. She started a Pony Club Riding Center as a way to bring the Horsemanship and Management side of horses to her students who did not own horses.
