Dear Skidaway Island Democrats and friends,
Please join us on May 18 when we welcome Saira Draper, Director of Voter Protection at the Democratic Party of Georgia, for a special ZOOM presentation.
Saira will join us to discuss SB 202 — Georgia's notorious new voter suppression law that constitutes an attack on the fundamental fairness of Georgia's election — from the perspective of state-level party leadership. Saira will explain the manifold implications of the new law, enumerate the lawsuits and Federal legislation that seek to reverse Georgia's re-embrace of Jim Crow, and outline steps that we can take at the local level to mitigate the intended harmful effects of SB 202.

Saira earned her BS in Public Policy from Georgia Institute of Technology, then her JD at Georgetown University Law Center after a stint in the Peace Corps. She entered her present position with DPG in December 2019 following time as Senior Staff Attorney at the Southern Poverty Law Center, where she served as class counsel in a federal lawsuit challenging the Office of Refugee Resettlement's family reunification processes and policy of sharing information with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Please join us for what promises to be a fascinating and informative look inside the strategy of the DPG as Democrats plan for the elections of 2022 and beyond. And feel free to share this invitation with friends and family. We look forward to seeing you May 18.
