Yoga for when your bones ache!!

Last week we practiced “yoga for understanding where our opinions come from”.

We explored how our opinions shape our identity, so are of course very important, but also how they are thus attached to our “egos” - which are ultimately what we want to undo through our practice of yoga.

Our egos are like splodges of paint on a blank canvas. Who we truly are IS the blank canvas. And if we are all blank canvases, then no one can be better or worse than anyone else - and we realise that we are all one and the same.

Obviously, I know that this sounds very simplistic, and there is much more to it than that - but I think in the context of last week’s intention, it does get us to reflect on our opinions and how they shape us and the world around us.

Ultimately, we need to question where our likes and dislikes come from. Are we forming our opinions based on human compassion, empathy and ahimsa (non-violence)? Can we have opinions whilst still practicing non-judgement? How much do we let our opinions affect our relationships with others? Can we remain respectful when voicing our opinions (see throat chakra practice from a couple of weeks ago!)?

If we are using our opinions to hurt ourselves or others, or we are not being respectful towards the person/people to whom we are voicing them, then that’s not particularly yogic

This is something I do actually find quite difficult myself! As a yogi, a female, a mother (and perhaps even as a Sagittarian for you zodiac fans out there!), I am extremely sensitive, passionate, empathic, emotional, and opinionated!! I have to check myself when I’m beginning to climb up on my soapbox. My yoga practice helps me to be more conscious of what I am saying and who I am saying it to.

Equally though, have you ever heard of the saying, “your vibe attracts your tribe”? I know it’s a little cheesy, but it is so true. Although it is important to be aware that you are not hurting/offending anyone with your opinions, it is also important to surround yourself with like-minded people - those who are just as compassionate, kind, loving and understanding as you are.

My goal has always been to create a tribe of yogis who care deeply about themselves and others; to try and surround myself with non-judgmental people who see inner-beauty and essence, rather than just superficial appearance; and to encourage people to think, talk and act in a way that creates a world/existence that all human beings can enjoy!

And I don’t think I’m doing too badly so far :-) <3

Anyway, moving on to this week…

I would love to (and for some reason always feel like I “should”) do another long, philosophical ramble for you this week, but actually the truth of the matter is that I am exhausted!!!

Most of you are aware (as I harp on about it so often), that I have a child who likes to wake up many times a night. And due to the nature of our family dynamic, it is usually mummy who goes to him - and then of course he wants breastmilk.

I have absolutely loved my breastfeeding journey with Jacob (even though it was a really rocky start), but at 1, 3, 5 and 6:30am I really have had enough! My gorgeous little boy becomes a death-eater from Harry Potter in the early hours, and I am left feeling drained and depleted most days!

My joints click, my bones ache, my skin is wrinkled, and my hair is much more grey than it was pre-baby!! (N.B. I do also "ache" to go to him when he needs me - oh the irony!)

So some (most) days, I just need a bit of yummy, stretchy, non-thinky Yoga!!

And that is exactly what we shall be doing this week -

No deep and meaningful messages I'm afraid... just plain, simple TLC for our poor
physical, aching bodies!

Namaste Yogis!

Love always,
Aimee
