Making the 6th District Great Again!

Dear Friends and Fellow Republicans

Congrats to Jason Miyares and the Cavalryman's Creed.

Saturday's Convention was a stunning success.  The 4 different voting locales processed thousands upon thousands of ballots and did so with near military like precision.  I wasn't able to get to either Lynchburg or to Salem/Roanoke due to time constraints, but what I saw at both Woodstock and Verona was very impressive.  There were a couple of minor glitches yes, but overall neither I or anyone else could have asked for much better.

Being descended from a Confederate Cavalryman from the 9th Alabama, I've always had a love for mounted troopers.  My military heroes from American history are cavalry officers or had at one time served in the cavalry.  And the following words will always ring true with me.   Back before the Civil War, a United States Cavalry Trooper once said "After God, I owe all to my horse".

So for Saturday's success  one can only say - that After God, we owe all to the volunteers.  I posted as much on my 6th District Facebook page.

The 6th District will be doing a post mortem on the convention, to figure out what we did right, and to see what can be done to make things better in the future - for both the voters and volunteers.

With that being said - a hearty congratulations to our Attorney General Jason Miyares.  Jason is an outstanding young man who we can all rally around with great ease.  Condolences also to Chuck Smith, Leslie Haley, and Jack White.  We had 4 outstanding candidates - and sadly only one can win.  Each of the 4 AG candidates worked themselves to the bone taking their messages across Virginia.  And no matter who won - each candidate can be proud of the race they ran.

Proverbs 27:17 says in part - Iron sharpens iron.  Meaning that a tough race, which is what was run in all 3 statewide campaigns were tough campaigns, but that a tough event brings out the best in all of us.  And for the most part, that is what happened statewide over the past few months.  Yes alot of harsh words were exchanged, but politics is a tough sport.  Only those who can handle the heat should be in the fray.

And with very few exceptions, pretty much each candidate acquitted themselves well.  The Lt. Governor's race will be counted - starting sometime today.  And then the Governor's race.  I will be posting results as they are made available on the 6th District FB Page and my Twitter account.  Both from the RPV website and the VPAP website as well.

Some Personal Thoughts

Have not seen much of this from people inside CD 6 - but am seeing some already say that the race is over because their candidate didn't win.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  But if we talk ourselves into believing defeat must occur, then we shall lose.  I had no dog in this fight, and to me it didn't matter which candidate won.  Either Jack White, Leslie Haley, Jason Miyares or Chuck Smith would be better than that Blackface wearing AG Mark Herring.  But what we must do is rally behind Mr. Miyares and do so with all possible speed.

As former Washington Redskins (YES I SAID IT!) Coath George Allen once said - 40 men together can't lose.  So now my dear friends, - if we rally around Mr. Miyares and the rest of the ticket, we shall be victorious come November!

Also, I will admit some shock that Mr. Miyares won the raw vote inside the 6th District.  Miyares winning Statewide was not a surprise - but his winning CD 6 was a bit of a shock.  Chuck and I have been close for several years.  He worked hard for this moment, and having been there before, I know the pain that he, Leslie Haley, and Jack White must feel.

With that being said, onward and upward, and once again a hearty congrats to Jason Miyares.  Jason will need all of our help to win - it's up to us to take back Virginia.

The volunteers who worked at all 4 polling locations cannot be thanked enough.  I posted a short list of those who worked the hardest on my 6th District FB site, however we all know I missed more people than I care to count.  With that wind blowing though the Verona Parking lot, it was amazing to watch people like Patty Fortebuono, Mona Huffer, Dave Bourne, Curt Lilly, Suzanne Obenshain, Jane Burner, Gary Chatelain, Bill Shirley and so many others working so hard to make sure that all went right.  If there are true heroes coming out of this convention - once again it was the volunteers who worked so hard in that wind.  If I didn't mention you here, please accept my apologies, and know that you were possibly mentioned on my 6th District FB page.  If I didn't mention you there, please email me or have someone email me on your behalf and I'll list you there.

Frank the Wonder Beagle enjoyed meeting so many of you at Woodstock as well!

Now let's see who will be our Lt. Governor/Governor nominee.
