Save the Date for 2021 Cultural Arts Grant Applications

Calling all artists! Save the date for the East Lansing Cultural Arts Grant Program application, which will become available on July 1, 2021 and are due on September 1, 2021 by 5 p.m. Interested applicants can attend a free webinar to learn about the grant application process on July 28, 2021 at 11:30 a.m.
 
The East Lansing Cultural Arts Grant Program supports public art programs and projects that provide high quality art experiences, encourage artistic expression and encourage public participation, with an emphasis on promoting cultural appreciation for BIPOC communities and LGBTQIA+ experiences and understanding through art.

Community Members Reminded of Modified Hours at ELHCC

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC) continues to remain open for the community during modified hours of operation. The ELHCC is open during the following hours:
  • Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.- 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, 12- 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, closed
Community members are advised that the ELHCC will be closed May 28-31 in observance of Memorial Day.

Operations remain limited at the ELHCC, but the building remains open for certain recreation and athletic programs. The fitness center and pool visits are also available on a reservation-only basis. To make a reservation for the pool or fitness center, call the ELHCC at (517) 333-2580, ext. 0.
 
Additionally, several fitness and yoga classes are being offered and take place outside (weather permitting). The ELHCC pottery studio is also open and artists can return to their artwork. Community members can visit https://linktr.ee/elhcc for available classes and updates as additional programming returns.

AECT to Hold Auditions for "Alice in Wonderland"

The All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre (AECT) is pleased to announce tentative plans to do an in-person performance of "Alice in Wonderland" this summer. In this version, Alice plunges down the rabbit hole and becomes involved in a madcap and deliciously satiric series of adventures.
 
AECT is seeking talented youth, ages 8-18, for cast and crew positions. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in-person auditions will be available by appointment only from May 20-22. Scholarships are also available for interested participants, courtesy of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing Young Creatives Program.

The production of "Alice in Wonderland" is tentatively scheduled for six shows at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, from July 30-Aug.1 and Aug. 6-8.

Camp Feature: Archer Trojan Community Soccer Camp 

The Archer Trojan Community Soccer Camp, East Lansing's premier soccer camp, is coming back this year. 

The camp is lead by East Lansing High (ELHS) School varsity soccer coach Jeff Lyon, who follows the examples set by former ELHS soccer championship coach Nick Archer. Participants will also receive instruction from former and current ELHS soccer players. 

Soccer players at all levels will enjoy a challenging and rewarding experience that will help them gain an understanding of teamwork and sportsmanship, help them learn the game of soccer and develop age-appropriate skills in a safe and positive environment.
 
The camp will be held at the East Lansing Soccer Complex from July 26-29 and the cost to participate is $65. To register and for more information, visit https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/1609/Camp-Offerings.

Audition for AECT's Production of "The Jungle Book"

The All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre (AECT) is excited to offer an outdoor touring production of "The Jungle Bookthis summer. The performances will take place this August at various outdoor locations in East Lansing. 
 
Auditions are open to youth, ages 11-18, and auditions must be submitted via video by Friday, May 7 at 9 p.m. Interested participants can download a script and learn more about the audition process at https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/2159/The-Jungle-Book. Scholarships are available for those wishing to participate that have been impacted financially by the pandemic.

Andre Hutson Basketball Camp to be Offered in June

The East Lansing Basketball Cub is teaming up with MSU National Champion and former Milwaukee Buck Andre Hutson for the 2021 Andre Hutson Basketball Camp. The camp is open to boys and girls, grades 2-12, and will focus on skill development, game fundamentals and fun!
 
The camp will take place from June 7-10, with the morning session taking place from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. and the afternoon session taking place from 1:30- 4:30 p.m. Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the camp will be spread out among the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, East Lansing High School and MacDonald Middle School. There will be no more than 80 participants per session in each location.

ELPRA to Offer Youth Tennis Camps this Summer

The East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation and Arts is partnering with Todd Martin Youth Leadership (TMYL) to bring three youth tennis camps for ages 6-12 to East Lansing. 

TMYL coaches will lead participants through leadership and team building activities, both on and off the court. There will also be an emphasis on learning and developing their tennis skills in an exciting environment. All equipment will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own racket.

The TMYL tennis camps will be offered June 14-18, June 28-July 2 and Aug. 2-6 from 9-11 a.m. The cost for each camp is $54. To register, call the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC) at (517) 333-2580 ext. 0, visit the ELHCC in-person or visit https://linktr.ee/elhcc.
