Doors Offer Safety

Judy is a wonderful young lady who is part of our LINK Program. Before coming to KentHOPE, she’d spent the last two years homeless and couch surfing, after falling on hard times due to an injury.

Thanks to God, and wonderful partners like you, Judy now shares a small apartment behind the Emergency Shelter here. I had the opportunity to talk with Judy not long after she came to KentHOPE. She shared about her injury and her appreciation for KentHOPE.

When I asked her how she liked living here, she teared up and said, "I have my own space. I LOVE it! It is the first time in over two years that I have had a door. I love having a door." When she said that, it really struck me how many things we take for granted. I never think twice about being able to close the door and shut out the world. Doors not only give us privacy and calm and quiet, but they make us feel safe and secure. These are things many of us don’t think about, but it is so important to Judy.

I am so thankful to God and to you for allowing Judy, and so many other women, the ability to feel safe and secure in their new shelter. Will you prayerfully consider making a donation today, so that we can continue to offer these women a safe and secure shelter?

Thank you!
— Lisa Mauga, Women's Emergency Shelter Director

Easter LOVE

Easter was a fun and busy time at KentHOPE. Now that we are sheltering more families, there are more children running around. On the day before Easter, children, from toddlers to teenagers, participated and had a blast in an Easter egg hunt in our back yard.

Our friends at Kent United Methodist Church (KUMC) donated Easter gift bags for all the ladies and Easter baskets for the children. The women received manicure sets, towel wraps, candy, journals, game books, inspirational books, nail polish, earbuds, lotions, combs, and two $10 Safeway cards each. The children 's baskets were filled with age appropriate toys, candy, and McDonald's gift cards. KUMC members also gave each staff person a $25 Target gift card.

One of the new highlights at KentHOPE is the addition of church services on Sunday mornings in our dining room, which most of our guests choose to attend. The ladies have enjoyed Joyce Meyer's videos "Choosing to Trust God," "Getting your Day Started Right," and "Walking by Faith."  The guests' laughter and comments have led to lively discussions.

Current Needs

Home-cooked breakfasts are much needed and appreciated by our guests. They’re so easy to do. Just prepare them at home and drop them off the night before. Sign up HERE for the date of your choice or get in touch with our Meal Coordinator, Pam Culver, at pamc.kenthope@gmail.com.

Your Gift Transforms Lives

KentHOPE is uniquely positioned to love and care for our local homeless neighbors. Three out of four of the women we served in March had a previous South King County address before they became homeless.

It costs $1,409 per month for one woman to receive the love, care, and practical help to meet her urgent needs through our program. Last month we served an average of 29 homeless guests per day, including 8 children.

Through your generosity, 8 women moved into housing in April.
