Nominations are now OPEN for the 2021 Newton SEPAC Special Educator Virtual Awards!
For those new to Newton SEPAC, the annual Special Educator Awards are a way to honor NPS and OOD staff who have gone the extra mile to support our special education students. Nominees span a wide range of staff, including teachers, aides, therapists, bus drivers, crossing guards, administrators, and other support staff. All nominees receive an award. The Awards are usually held in person but will be virtual in 2021 for the second year running. (Fingers crossed for an in-person gathering in 2022!). Please go to https://forms.gle/M9uHkvhHx1NvvnJ2A to submit your nominations by May 17, 2021.
More on how the 2021 "Virtual" Awards will work:
- Families will submit nominations using the Google Form
- Each nominee will receive the text of the nomination in an email
- The email to each nominee will also include messages of thanks from Mayor Fuller, the School Committee, Superintendent Fleishman, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Beth Fitzmaurice, and the SEPAC Board
- Each nominee will receive a printed award in early June
- Each Principal will receive a list of the nominees from their schools

FORJ NNHS invites you to a zoom program on Thursday, May 20 from 7:30-8:30pm to discuss the correlation between where communities of color are situated and their vulnerability to air pollution. These communities are also more prone to the detrimental effects of climate change. For additional background on this important topic, you may find some short articles here, here and here. Please register here in advance for this meeting and you will receive a confirmation email with the zoom link.

Our last parent community event of the school year will be Wine Club (in-person) on Thursday, May 27, at the home of the Pontiffs (Oscar, NNHS '21). Recommended donation to the NNHS PTSO: $25. As this will be an in-person event, we must adhere to CDC guidelines (capacity limited to 35 people, masks on while indoors). RSVP here by 5/20.
