Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to school - I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break and made the most of the beautiful Autumn weather we have been having!

May has hardly begun and already it is looking like a busy and exciting term with skateboarding lessons, diving scouts, trips, mid year reports and student led conferences, book fairs, wheels days, sausage sizzles and mufti days coming up.  As well as this we are continuing with a number of building and property projects (some of these have been delayed for COVID-related reasons) so watch this space!

A reminder that regular attendance at school really matters when it comes to your child's learning and their future. We are here to help and happy to talk to you about any challenges you are having in ensuring your children attend school regularly.

This term we are reviewing our policy on 'Reporting to Parents on Student Progress and Achievement'. If you are interested you can go to https://www.schooldocs.co.nz/ and search for Freyberg Community School. Our username is 'freyberg' and our password is 'learn'. You can find policies up for review in the main box with the red icon and from there you can read the policy and add any feedback you may have by clicking on the green speech bubble.

A special hello to our latest New Entrants who have started in Room 3 with Ms Cooke and Ms Corlett this week - welcome to Freyberg!

Noho ora mai - stay safe,

Reminder from the Office

Arrangements have been made with many families to assist them with payment of their stationery and uniforms.  We would appreciate parents/caregivers keeping the discussed arrangements and make payment as promised with the office staff.

If you have made an arrangement that you are unable to honour due to unforeseen circumstances please contact Juliette in the school office.  Accounts will be sent out to all families concerned this week.  We will endeavour to assist you as best we can.
A friendly reminder to sign in at the office when you come onto school property during school hours - this is an important health and safety requirement.
We are excited to share the news that Freyberg Community School will be welcoming the NZ ice skate tour to our school hall! This will be taking place on the night of Monday the 6th of September and there are only 30 spaces left - so get in quick. The school receives 20% of takings after the event so it is a great fundraiser for us! All students will receive an ice skating lesson during school time so it's a great opportunity for them to show off their new skills.

Important information regarding Freyberg Netball

It looks like an exciting time ahead with some 30+ students wishing to play netball and represent our school. Teams have now been finalised and we have had our first meeting announcing teams, coaches and managers.

Again we would like to express our thanks to those parents who have put their hands up and offered to volunteer their precious time to coach and manage some of the netball teams. In addition to this, we'd like to say a special thank you to Ms Jenner for co-ordinating the 2021 Winter Season—a huge task—and much appreciated!

Netball Registration costs are as follows:

Year 2 & Year 4 - $75.00
Year 5 & Year 6 - $90.00

Please note that all registration fees will need to be paid this week.
Last day for all payments was Monday 3rd May .
Unfortunately students are unable to play if their registration fees have not been paid.

Netball uniforms will be handed out to all players in time for the first game of the season for Year 6 - i.e. Monday 10th May - and our Year 2 & 4 students - i.e. Thursday 27th May.
With the cooler weather here, we are asking all families to check that all school uniforms are clearly named - in particular polar fleece and windproof jackets, as it certainly makes it easier to return if they end up in another class or the school office.

The office carries all uniform supplies and we are well equipped with extra stock to assist those families wishing to purchase any winter polar fleece jackets.

Missing School Uniforms & Lost Property

The swimming programme for the juniors took place from 15th March until 26th March.  During this time we always seem to have items accidentally picked up by others as the students are getting changed into togs/back into school uniforms.  If during this time your child has brought home any of the following items in error kindly drop them into the school office where they can be returned to their rightful owners.

Size 4/6 polo shirt - named Azariah Poppleton
Brand new girls black T-bar school shoes & swimming goggles - white and pink - named Riley Carseldine
Size 6 polo shirt - named Elijah Sila
Size 10 polar fleece jacket - named Catherine Duong - misplaced in Room 15

The stress created for students/parents/staff due to the loss of items could be avoided if all items were clearly named.  If you need assistance with naming any items office staff are more than happy to assist.

We also have a school hat with a "code" on it.  This may be relative to the child when looking for it in their class but not the office staff. If this hat belongs to your child please contact the school office and we will name this appropriately and return.

This week we have again added to quite a collection of drink bottles / toys and precious belongings being brought to school. Students are encouraged not to bring precious treasures as the distress caused with them being lost/misplaced is a problem which could be prevented if these toys in particular were kept at home.  If you think any of the pictured items belong to your child please give the office a call and we will gladly return them.
