Three Farmers Ready to ‘Open the Barn Doors’ to Gain Public Support for Modern Dairy Farming During Virtual Farm Tours Next Week
It’s not too late to encourage teachers and families to sign up for next week’s Virtual Farm Tours. A blog about host Adam Bates from Stauffer Farms was written to encourage teachers and other viewers to tune in live. We’re also using targeted social media advertisements and direct email outreach to garner more live views. 
  • May 11 – Pre-K to Grade 3, at Talview Dairy led by Stacey Copenhaver, Lebanon, Pa., from 1-1:30 p.m. 
  • May 12 – Grades 8-12, at Mulligan Farm led by Emilie Mulligan, Avon, N.Y., from 1-2 p.m. 
  • May 13 – Grades 4-7, at Stauffer Farms led by Adam Bates, North Lawrence, N.Y., from Noon-1 p.m.

Largest Districts’ Nutrition Directors Get ‘Schooled’ on How to Keep Dairy in Student Meals
Dairy farmers are committed to making sure school students have access to healthy meals that include dairy. In support, ADA North East hosted a school nutrition forum for more than 50 school nutrition directors from the largest school districts by enrollment, to reengage students in school meals – which translates to more dairy sales.

True Story – Removing Cows Won’t Make a Dent in Reducing U.S. Greenhouses Gas Emissions
Dairy farmers know that their businesses contribute such a small portion of the total U.S. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions – only about 1.3%. Recent research for which the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy supported Virginia Tech and USDA found that if dairy herds were somehow removed from the U.S., it would only reduce GHG by about 0.7%, while seriously reducing the various essential nutrients that milk provides.
