The annual Mother’s Day Offering for Presbyterian Homes of Georgia will be received on May 9. This offering is a long tradition at Mount Vernon and other Presbyterian churches throughout the state with all proceeds going to the Caring Hands Fund.
These funds provide assistance to elderly residents who have outlived their financial resources and ensure that no one is ever asked to leave one of the homes due to inability to pay.
Donations may be sent to the church office with “Mother’s Day Offering” written in the check memo line.  Online donations may be made by going to phgainc.org - from the menu select “donate” and then “Caring Hands Offering”.
Visit our website, Facebook, Instagram, or look for the Wednesday email for Midweek Manna. This new series is designed to be a primer for Sunday and to hopefully help you in the present moment in which you find yourself. In these videos, the worship staff here at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church will lead you on a journey through scripture, music, and prayer. Click on the photo above if you missed it!

NEED PRAYER?

Have our Prayer Vine pray for you! Email your requests to prayerrequests@mvpchurch.org or call the church office at 404-255-2211.

The Information Center is inside the Church office if you need Upper Room Devotionals (May-June), These Days Devotionals (April-June), Good News, Stephen Ministry, The MVPC Members' Gift of Wisdom, or Care Notes.
It has been a joy for Stephen Ministers to be involved with Congregational Care during Covid.  Those of us without an active Stephen Ministry relationship going have been assigned a church member.  Usually, that assignee has ongoing health or aging issues or lives far from family and could benefit from weekly involvement with a church member.  It has been a way for us to keep our skills honed and to be blessed as well!  We are continually learning ways to meet the emotional needs of our congregation from grief, transition, job loss or change, financial problems, divorce, empty nest, miscarriage, chronic disease, dying, new health diagnosis,  or any dark valley you travel.  We want to be your temporary companion for the journey to help see you to safe shores. It's all confidential. To start a Stephen Ministry relationship, contact a minister or call or email Pat Bartee, Stephen Leader.
  • Praise the Lord!  John and Patricia Hibbard are happy to say that granddaughter, Emma Kate, is at home with her parents.  She had her first doctor appointment and had to be tested for jaundice and the levels were higher than normal, so she will have more tests this week.  Prayers for Emma Kate’s perfect health in the days to come.
  • Ann Baynham had knee replacement surgery and is recovering well at home and taking PT.  She is a little stiff and sore, so prayers for perfect healing and movement in her knee joint.
  • Prayers for complete healing and skilled doctors for Bruce Hagenau for two conditions: aggressive prostate cancer and asynchronous heartbeat caused by atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.
  • Praise and prayers for Rylynn Ziemba to walk independently.  Her mother, Carol says, “She has had a pretty good week last week.  She received several cards from church members and she absolutely loved them.  She said, “I think I want to cry, they make my heart happy.” And had tears in her eyes.  It really helps to hear the kind words people write to her.”  This is a real turnaround for Rylynn and the first good week she has had in a long time!  Thank you so much for sending a sweet card of encouragement to this little girl.  If you would like to send her another card, her address is 4785 Plainsman Circle, Cumming, GA 30028.
  • Prayers for Kirk Pumphrey to gain strength and movement in his left hand and arm.
  • Prayers for complete healing for Jane Schultz after surgery for carpal tunnel in her hand.  The incision has healed, but she has numbness still.
  • Prayers for Julie Chesnutt; she has started infusions every three weeks until July as the final round of treatment.
  • Prayers for continued healing and relief from back pain and surgery for Bill Norman.
  • Prayers for recovery and improvement for Corny Laube.
  • Prayers for freedom from addiction for Rob Southard.
  • Prayers for strength and provision for vulnerable children, families, and staff we support at schools and an orphanage in Zambia, with Los Niño’s Primero, Community Assistance Center, and with Family Promise.
  • Prayers for health and peace for our children, parents, and teachers at school and for those who opt for homeschooling or a gap year navigating education during a pandemic.  A new group of seniors are getting ready to graduate, and college students will return home soon with an education away from home during a pandemic.  God is good!
  • Praise for the COVID vaccinations for those at risk.  Lord, we give you all of the glory!  We thank you for increased freedom in our communities and pray for the elimination of Covid worldwide.

In-Reach Funds

During this time of angst and uncertainty, your church has been a beacon of outreach for people near and far. However, I want to briefly share with you that MVPC is also committed to in-reach. What is “in-reach,” you ask? In-reach is a commitment by your church to serve those of you who have fallen on hard times during this pandemic and resulting economic upheaval. We have a fund that I, as your pastor, personally oversee. This fund is set up in that manner to ensure discretion for what can be a vulnerable time for anyone. Thus, if you are a church member or if you know of a church member or family that is wading through a difficult stretch, please reach out. We want to support you and do what we can to lessen the burden you are under. You are loved by your church family.

Grace and peace to all of you and thanks be to God for your compassion and empathy for your neighbors.

Barrett

MVPC COVID-19 UPDATE
Your recent donations are making a difference in the community!

April 29, 2021

Dear Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church Friends,

From the very bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generous donation of $1000. This past year has brought us many unique challenges, and it is because of wonderful people such as yourselves, that we have been able to continue providing our services throughout the pandemic.

Since the start of the pandemic, we have seen a 42% increase in calls to our domestic violence hotline while seeing significant funding cuts at the county, state, and federal levels.  Additionally, due to the Covid crisis, we have been unable to schedule any major fundraising events. You can be assured that your donation will be used to supplant some of our shortfall and allow us to continue meeting the diverse needs of our clients.

Thank you again so very much for anticipating and responding to our needs in such an open-hearted way.  Wishing you good health.

 Best regards,

Anna Blau                           Lynn Tarnow
