Dear Holy Cross Families,

Thank you for making this week so special for our teachers! On Monday, we were welcomed with sidewalks and doors decorated with special messages to begin the celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. On Tuesday, we received beautiful tulips and today students are wearing their teacher’s favorite color. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next two days. Thank you parents and thank you HASA for supporting our teachers and staff and recognizing their hard work with such thoughtfulness.

During the month of May we also celebrate and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary with our traditional May Crowning. Marco Bajuyo and Megan Barnes have been chosen to crown the statue of Mary with a ring of flowers. Placing this crown of flowers reminds us of the never-ending love of our spiritual mother, Mary. Our May Crowning Mass will be held this Friday. Our 7th grade class will plan and attend the Mass with the PK  immersion and traditional classes. If you have a child in either of those grades, you are welcome to come and celebrate Mass in the church, otherwise you can view the live-stream Mass via Zoom.  Please look for the link later in this newsletter.

Looking ahead…

Next week’s newsletter will have information about the 2021-2022 school year, including the  calendar and information about the YMCA afterschool program being held here in our school building.

5 de mayo de 2021

Queridos padres y guardianes,

In his apostolic exhortation, Patris Corde, With a Father’s Heart, announcing this Year of St. Joseph, Pope Francis explains that Joseph is a model for our contemporary world of true fatherhood, one that doesn’t abuse authority and power but places it at the service of others. Francis states, “Every true vocation is born of the gift of oneself, which is the fruit of mature sacrifice. The priesthood and consecrated life likewise require this kind of maturity.”
Interestingly, the Holy Cross Brothers were originally founded as the Brothers of St. Joseph by Fr. Jacques Dujarie in 1820, to meet the educational needs of post-revolutionary France. Because of Fr. Dujarie’s failing health, the local bishop asked Fr. Basil Moreau, who had recently founded the Auxiliary Priests from Holy Cross (Sainte Croix), to take on leadership of the brothers. In 1837 the Brothers of Saint Joseph and the Auxiliary Priests from Holy Cross were united into the Congregation of (from) Holy Cross. Father Moreau then founded the women’s branch of Holy Cross as the Marianites of Holy Cross... The United States branch took the name the Sisters of the Holy Cross…
