CCL Montana May 2021 Newsletter
Hi !

Our Members of Congress need to see concern about climate change from all Montanans, which is why we are inviting folks from the far corners of our state to an engaging talk by Dr. Scott Denning from Colorado State University called "Simple. Serious. Solvable." Can you help by inviting a friend? You can share this facebook event or forward this newsletter. Registration is easy at bit.ly/ConservingOurFuture.

The other way we can we can convince them to act is by having our supporters call them once a month. It's super easy, because CCL sends you an email reminder with the link and script all right there! Go to CCLUSA.org/mcc to sign up!

From weird weather to finding fame in print, we're sure our May newsletter has something for you.  Let's not waste any more time so you can get started with climate action right away!

We'll "see" you around the state.  Thanks for everything you do to build political will for a livable planet.

Conserving Our Future: the What and Why of Weird Weather
Thursday May 20th, 7pm-8:15 pm

Our featured speaker is Dr. Scott Denning from Colorado State University, who’ll explain weird weather in a way that makes sense in his talk ‘Simple. Serious. Solvable’. Plus, he’ll be open to any questions you have!

We’ll also hear from a panel on how these trends impact our health, our pocketbooks, and our food, and show how effective solutions can bring real opportunities for a more healthy and prosperous America.

  • Retired Billings pediatrician Marian Kummer
  • Clearwater Credit Union’s Paul Herendeen
  • Logan Mannix from Mannix Grassfed Beef

You’ll come away with a more solid understanding of why carbon dioxide is a problem, how the changing climate may affect you, your family and your town, and that there are solutions we all can agree on that will conserve our forests, agriculture, rivers, and air for future generations.

Denning is author of more than 100 papers in the professional climate literature, he’s served on advisory panels for the US Department of Energy, NASA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Science Foundation. As a young man he was a geologist working in the oil industry in Montana and North Dakota. He has presented to a variety of groups, including the Heartland Institute.

Hey you!  (Yes, you!)  Are you looking for fame, fortune and the undying adulation of readers throughout Montana?  Then look no further than the state-wide “Press Media Writing Group” led by Mary Mulcaire-Jones or the Flathead Valley Chapter "Letter To the Editor Team" led by Laura Reynolds.

Ok, maybe there is no money or bright lights, but you do get the thrill of seeing your words and name in print!  If you feel intimidated by the task, never fear!  One of the beauties of these teams is exactly that – it’s a team, and the other members can help you with everything from identifying topics to writing and editing!

You would be a critical part of the effort to continue and enhance publicity about carbon pricing and the EICDA, and your work may even recruit new members to CCL!

Come on, give it a try!

Lobby the President from your Mailbox
We are hearing reports from across Montana that our postcards are going out to President Biden in Washington DC.  Sister Ann in our Billings chapter is a superstar!  She bought and stamped 25 postcards then gave them to friends who all sent in their personal message.

It's not too late to write.  Get a free postcard mailed through the MyPostcard app.  See cclusa.org/postcardhelp to get started.

Feel free to use your own phrasing (carbon tax, carbon fee, carbon price) and highlight whichever policy benefits you're most excited about (emissions reductions, spurring business innovation, or any others). You might tie in the photo on the front of your postcard to talk about your inspiration behind climate action.

Or you can drop your own postcard in the mail:

President Joe Biden
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

Write one today!

Bonus action: Take a photo or screenshot then post the image and message you used for your postcard to your social media and tag @POTUS

May Speaker

May Monthly Meeting w/ Andres Jimenez, Green 2.0 Executive Director

People of color are likely to be the most impacted by environmental and climate degradation. And yet, they are typically the most underrepresented in environmental organizations and the national conversation about cleaning up our environment. Our guest this month is Andrés Jimenez, Executive Director of Green2.0, an organization dedicated to increasing the diversity of voices being heard at the table when it comes to environmental justice. Before joining Green2.0, Andres was Senior Director of Government Affairs for Citizens' Climate Lobby. Before that, he was Associate Director of Government Relations at Ocean Conservancy. He has also worked on the Hill in the offices of Rep. Linda Sanchez and Rep. Howard Berman.
