Towards Reconciliation: Alf Dumont’s Invitation to Listen

After a conversation with Elder Alf Dumont, Cathy Hird and Cheryl Curtis began to rethink how to approach reconciliation. Some conclusions: begin at the beginning; learn more about the land we share; shift power dynamics. You can read the blog and participate in reflective process here.

You too have the opportunity to learn from a conversation with Elder Alf Dumont. On May 11, United in Learning is hosting Exploring Reconciliation with Alf Dumont, where we’ll discuss how reconciliation is more than an academic or political exercise; it’s also deeply personal. There is not charge for the webinar (it’s sponsored by Mission & Service), and participants will receive a 20% discount on Alf's book, The Other Side of the River. Sign up here

TRC Commissioners Discuss Bill C15

The Commissioners of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada put the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at the heart of the Final Report and Calls to Action of the TRC Final Report. While the United Church, following the lead of the National Indigenous Council, has not taken a position on Bill C15 (Canada’s new UNDRIP legislation), we do encourage everyone to learn as much as they can about the legislation and what it will mean for Canada.

On May 4, former Commissioners Murray Sinclair, Wilton Littlechild, and Marie Wilson discussed the legislation in a webinar – you can catch up on it at the Canadian Council of Church’s Intercultural Leadership and Learning Facebook page.
