Issue 179

Chatham MA lighthouse at sunset

One week after my second (Pfizer) vaccine shot, I have had zero symptoms or side effects. Judging from some of the responses I got last week, I got lucky. Sounds like it hit some of you pretty hard, and I hope all that has subsided by now.
I don't have any dear-diary rants this week, just some links to stuff that I liked/loved/laughed at:

  • Even if you don’t care about sports, this story about how Andre Agassi was able to “read” Boris Becker is pretty great. (Twitter)
  • Harrison Ford reacting appropriately to a card trick. (Twitter)
  • STRAIGHT FIRE: My life as a woman in tech, told in three beverages. (Medium)
  • I love this guy’s style. And his legs aren't bad either. (Kottke)
  • Brutally honest wine labels. (Sad and Useless)
  • "She gotta chill." (TikTok)
  • Phife Dawg forever. (Rolling Stone)
  • Baby from hell. (Digg)
  • Don’t click this link if you’re eating. The only way this story could get any better is if it happened in Florida. (Consequence)
  • A poetry archive with the most perfect URL. (Boing Boing)
  • Awesome art made from shoes. (Colossal)
  • I love this guy and his contagious laugh. (TikTok)
  • And finally, this 2-hour documentary, in which people from a handful of bands I’ve never heard of** talk about what going on tour is really like for most musicians, most of the time. Yes it’s long, but it is masterfully edited, with almost no live concert footage filler; the movie is largely about the 23 hours BETWEEN shows. I laughed my ass off, because I’ve been in most of those situations, things that were terrible at the time, but funny as hell in hindsight. What I love most is that the genre of music doesn’t even matter; the experiences are unique but somehow still universal. Right down to how women alert other band members if a creepy guy is making them uncomfortable. A++++ (YouTube)

**The only “famous” person I recognized was Steve Albini.
