UPDATES FROM QAA

On 26 May, QAA published the following important and useful updates:

Credit Framework for England
QAA has published a second edition of the Higher Education Credit Framework for England following a review by an advisory group drawn from across the higher education sector. There are two complementary publications:
The two publications introduce guiding principles for the use of credit and give an overview of how credit can work within a range of emerging aspects of higher education, like micro-credentials.

Ongoing Implications of the Pandemic for Placements and Practice-Based Courses including Field Work
As part of its COVID-19 support and advice for the UK higher education sector, QAA has published updated guidance. Due to the pandemic’s ongoing impact on placements and practice-based courses, the updated guidance includes further support concerning field work and field trips, including a list of documents that are especially relevant in the current circumstances.
UEA SCHOLARSHIPS

Did you know that there are a wide range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate scholarships available at UEA? Scholarships are usually awarded based on a student’s academic excellence in the form of a tuition fee reduction, and the amount awarded may vary. Some require a separate application form to be completed for consideration, whereas others automatically consider applicants who have already been offered a place on their course.

Please note that some Postgraduate scholarships are only available to UEA alumni, whereas others could be available to staff and graduates of partner institutions. Please check each scholarship for the detailed information and eligibility criteria.
For information on all of the scholarships available at UEA, please click here. Please feel free to pass this information on to students, staff, and colleagues within your institutions who are supporting students in their higher education journeys.

60 SECONDS WITH MADDY LE GRICE, PARTNERSHIPS COORDINATOR

Tell us about your role at UEA
I’m one of the two Partnerships Coordinators at UEA and provide admin support for our partnerships with City College Norwich, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, The Royal Marsden School and West Suffolk College. I also manage Hannah Jackson's diary, assist with our social media channels, design our monthly newsletter, and deal with initial enquiries from those looking to set up international partnerships.

How has your role changed as a result of COVID-19?
Like many people, I’m now working from home full-time. It was certainly a shock to the system at the beginning and, although I've grown more used to it over time, I'm still really looking forward to being able to see colleagues face-to-face again over the coming months.

What would surprise people to know about you?
I love aeroplanes - going in them, learning about them and, occasionally, spotting them 😊. I’m fascinated by how something as big and heavy as a plane can fly, and seemingly from a young age too as I'm told my favourite book was ‘If I Were a Pilot’. Needless to say, it’s probably a good job I didn’t pursue that particular career path as when I had a go in a flight simulator a couple of years back, I set off pretty much every alarm going!

What’s your favourite film of all time and why?
It has to be ‘Sully: Miracle on the Hudson’. It's quite niche, so in case you’re not familiar, Tom Hanks plays real-life pilot (you’re probably sensing a theme here) Captain “Sully” Sullenberger who, in 2009, managed to safely land his passenger jet on the Hudson River after losing the use of both engines mid-flight. It always leaves me feeling awestruck at the level of skill Captain Sullenberger showed that day.

What’s your favourite place to visit?
Probably the Peak District. The scenery is so beautiful and, as much as I love Norfolk, it’s great to see some hills now and again!

Tell us your favourite joke
More of a one-liner than a joke as such but here goes: ‘I tried to sue the airport for losing my luggage. I lost my case’.
