60 SECONDS WITH MADDY LE GRICE, PARTNERSHIPS COORDINATOR
Tell us about your role at UEA
I’m one of the two Partnerships Coordinators at UEA and provide admin support for our partnerships with City College Norwich, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, The Royal Marsden School and West Suffolk College. I also manage Hannah Jackson's diary, assist with our social media channels, design our monthly newsletter, and deal with initial enquiries from those looking to set up international partnerships.
How has your role changed as a result of COVID-19?
Like many people, I’m now working from home full-time. It was certainly a shock to the system at the beginning and, although I've grown more used to it over time, I'm still really looking forward to being able to see colleagues face-to-face again over the coming months.
What would surprise people to know about you?
I love aeroplanes - going in them, learning about them and, occasionally, spotting them 😊. I’m fascinated by how something as big and heavy as a plane can fly, and seemingly from a young age too as I'm told my favourite book was ‘If I Were a Pilot’. Needless to say, it’s probably a good job I didn’t pursue that particular career path as when I had a go in a flight simulator a couple of years back, I set off pretty much every alarm going!
What’s your favourite film of all time and why?
It has to be ‘Sully: Miracle on the Hudson’. It's quite niche, so in case you’re not familiar, Tom Hanks plays real-life pilot (you’re probably sensing a theme here) Captain “Sully” Sullenberger who, in 2009, managed to safely land his passenger jet on the Hudson River after losing the use of both engines mid-flight. It always leaves me feeling awestruck at the level of skill Captain Sullenberger showed that day.
What’s your favourite place to visit?
Probably the Peak District. The scenery is so beautiful and, as much as I love Norfolk, it’s great to see some hills now and again!
Tell us your favourite joke
More of a one-liner than a joke as such but here goes: ‘I tried to sue the airport for losing my luggage. I lost my case’.
