Get recognised in the Scottish Geospatial Capability directory

Location Data Scotland is building a geospatial community across Scotland to leverage location data as an enabler of innovation and create greater efficiency in the products and services delivered and utilised by businesses and the public sector in Scotland.

We are building the Scottish Geospatial Capability Directory, a collective list of organisations’ capabilities in location data across Scotland.   The aim of the directory will be to support and enable us to connect, inform and facilitate collaboration between industry, academia, public and third sector, across multiple sectors, to drive innovation, unlock skills and enable economic growth.

To ensure your organisation is considered as part of the Directory, we would encourage you to complete this short questionnaire.  This will be followed up in a one-to-one meeting to provide support and guidance to your organisation to help it excel in this exciting technology sector.

Full details on how we use your data is provided once you access the survey.

Unlocking the Potential of Location Data for Travel and Tourism

If you’ve recently searched for a place on Google Maps, tagged your latest photo on Instagram, mapped your runs or cycle trips, or counted your steps on your smartphone, then you’ll be one of millions of people using location data daily.

As the number of IoT enabled devices we use increases, the volume of location data is only set to increase. CGI UK estimates that the location data market is growing by around 15-20% per year and that the “power of where” can help deliver better business and government outcomes.

There is a massive opportunity to use location data in the travel and tourism sector to use location data in innovative ways to solve problems, improve services, enhance skills, connect elements of visitor journeys, and enhance and personalise the visitor experience.

This month sees Location Data Scotland partner with Traveltech for Scotland to run a joint event ‘Unlocking the Potential of Location Data for Travel and Tourism’. The event will take place on Thursday 27th May and brings together a host of speakers from across the travel tech and data sectors including Bruce Gittings from The University of Edinburgh, Shaon Talukder from GeoTourist, Steve Owens from Huli, Joshua Ryan-Saha and Lesley Judge from Traveltech for Scotland and Ashley Stewart from Location Data Scotland.

There are some excellent examples of companies using location data in the tourism and travel sector such as Neatebox WelcoMe smartphone app, Walks & Waterfalls, an app to allow users to locate hundreds of walks, waterfalls and wild swimming places in Scotland and Electrek Explorer simplifying trip planning for electric vehicles. To find out more about these exciting applications and more read the recent blog by Lesley Judge of Traveltech for Scotland on our website here and check out the Traveltech Directory.
