A Message From the High School Coordinator
The Goldilocks Principle
Throughout my years teaching senior students I have often talked to them about "The Goldilocks Principle". I'm sure someone much smarter and wiser than myself thought it up many years ago, but it just popped into my head when I was talking to some students a few years back and it's stuck with me ever since.
Of course it's just a fancy way of describing doing things in moderation, or having a healthy...

Year 1
This term Year 1 has started a new grammar program.
This has taken courage as they have been brave and courageous trying new things.
This has taken kindness as they have helped each other learn and used words of life to encourage everyone.
This has taken concentration and determination as they carefully listen and learn all about capital letters, full stops, quotation marks, question marks, subjects, verbs...I could go on and on!
It has also taken our GRAMMAR GLASSES, which is our fun way of knowing we are ready to switch our brains to grammar.
Year 1 are truly spectacular learners and we have a load of fun as we grow our amazing brain roads!

Kindergarten + Primary Expo
The Primary Expo was held last Tuesday night in the hall. Our primary staff created some spectacular exhibits to showcase all that PCS has to offer.
It was fabulous to see the hall filled with new families exploring and engaging in all the hands on activities.
Children of new families chatted happily with the PCS students and completed the Expo sticker hunt page to go in the running for a prize.
The night was a great success and we look forward to meeting the new families in 2022!

Language with Year 7v
Year 7V has been enjoying learning Auslan this semester. The practical nature of the language has made it engaging for all students and much fun is had as we learn, attempt, mess up and master various signs. We have learned finger spelling, hand signs, basic conversation words amongst other aspects of the language and culture. We are currently focussed on creating questions whilst grappling with the grammatical differences between English and Auslan. Students will soon begin to interpret a picture book of their choice to further build their Auslan vocabulary and it is always a fun and funny time!

Senior Engineering
Engineering Studies had a challenge to build a movable bridge that would span a metre, and hold a mass of 1kg. Some interpretations of the rules of construction were interesting, and led to a bizarre construction using duct tape, which could take the mass of a 17 year old student!
This is part of the module on Civil Construction.

Athletics Carnival
Our annual Athletics Carnival was held on Friday with the Endeavour Lions defending their title and recording a comfortable victory.
The Lions came out on top in both the Primary and High School carnivals to cap off a dominant day. The final score was: Lions 944, Eagles 809, Sharks 790.
In the Infants Carnival, the Sharks were winners with 108, to the Eagles 98, while the Lions scored 92.
There were a number of outstanding performances from students throughout the day. Lachlan Unger, Ruby Wilson, Arabella McCutcheon, Jacob Cowie, Henry Unger, Chloe Amery and Zoe Amery were all dominant in their age divisions. However, the best performance of the day came from Arabella Kite who scored an amazing 48 out of 50 possible points!
A number of age groups were hotly contested, and the overall age champions will be announced on Monday. A real highlight was the battle between Year 12 boys William Greenland, Thomas Unger and Bailey Boland who were desperate to win in their final year. And in a look at years to come, Patrick Kite and Peter McIntyre were almost inseparable in the 9 years boys age group.
Bradley Timbrell is a new student this year, and he performed incredibly well in the 15 years boys, pushing Thomas McIntyre and Marcus Moss hard all day.
It was also great to see the relays, with Luke Magill anchoring home the Eagles in a thrilling high school race. It was Luke's last ever run at PCS and we hope he can perform well at Zone.
Zone Carnival qualifiers will be notified next week, with the Zone Carnival taking place in Dubbo early in Term 3.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the day possible. The staff and students did an amazing job all day in getting to the events on time and making sure we were able to finish ahead of schedule!
The canteen was a huge success as well. Thanks to Jim and Kaylene Davis for organising the canteen and making sure everyone was well fed throughout the day.
Our school carnivals are now done for the year, however there is still plenty of sport ahead this year with a number of Gala Days, Zone and State Carnivals, House Challenges and our Mini-Olympics still to come.

Working Bee!
We are holding a working bee on the 27, 28 and 29 of May (Thursday-Saturday). Under the close supervision of Jim Davis, we will be securing iron sheeting to the new basketball court roof. If you are available to help screw down, pass around sheets or just help in general, we would love to have you! Please bring gloves and a tek screw gun if you have one. The roof is currently at ground level so don’t worry about that fear of heights!
We will be starting at 8:30am each day. Even if you can’t do a full day, a couple hours of your time would be most appreciated.
Please RSVP via the Office on 6862 4164 or to Jim Davis directly.

Forbes Eisteddfod
The Forbes Eisteddfod is a great local event, which enables students who have a keen interest in the performing arts to hone their skills by performing across a range of performance genres, including recitation, mime, story telling, prepared and impromptu reading and public speaking.
If your child is interested in this type of performance we would encourage you to visit their website at https://www.forbeseisteddfod.com.au/
Student groups such as the K-2 Choir and the Year 2 Choral Speaking Group will also be attending the eisteddfod to perform in a variety of sections.
While dates are not yet guaranteed, the time frame currently listed on the Forbes Eisteddfod website is 9th to 16th June. The speech and drama performances usually take place all on the one day, vocals on another and instrumentals on another.
It is noted that this is also the time for final rehearsals for the Little Mermaid, so if your child is heavily involved in that production, this should be taken into consideration.
Individual students may also be selected by the school to participate in some sections of the Eisteddfod.
Any parent can enter their child in the eisteddfod, by visiting the website and following the instructions provided.
