The pandemic has sparked a start-up boom in the UK: 221,000 new businesses were incorporated in the third quarter of last year - the highest figure of the past decade. The trend is continuing, with 211,000 incorporations in the first three months of 2021.

But how to ensure a start-up grows into a successful business or social enterprise? In a new report: How to launch a new business, McKinsey analysed 200 start-ups to recommend three approaches that work

Yet entrepreneurs do not always have equal access to the resources necessary to be successful, according to a report in Harvard Business Review. It reveals that, in the US, black women are more likely to start a business than white men, but are significantly less likely to run an established business.

The Global Social Entrepreneurship Network (GSEN), which was set up to support early stage social entrepreneurs eight years ago, has closed, saying it could no longer meet members' needs. In a final blogpost the GSEN reflects on key lessons
