Maysha Mohamedi Sacred Witness Sacred Menace at Parrasch Heijnen (May 11 - Jun 12) Painting directly on the canvas with her hands, Mohamedi creates large-scale abstract paintings that are symbolic of time, place, and identity.

Kiyomi Quinn Taylor a river gets wide, Jon Key Lean On Me, and Drew Dodge Wasteland at Steve Turner (May 8 - Jun 19) Taylor uses photographs to paint fantastical scenes of her relatives, Key leans on chosen family in simple, bright paintings, & Dodge explores his queerness in figurative works. 

Stephen Robert Johns The Geometry of Colour at Kylin Gallery (May 1 - May 29) Geometric abstractions of pure color frenetically dance on large canvases in this solo exhibition, viewable online and in person.

 

Emil Alzamora Waymaker at Lowell Ryan Projects (May 8 - Jun 19) Lowell Ryan Projects opens their new location with Alzamora’s curious sculptural figures that seem to transition into and out of humanity.

Andrew K. Currey Tiny Battles and Stephanie Inagaki Within the Shadows at Launch LA (May 8 - Jun 5) Two solo shows at Launch LA illuminate the human condition and suggest strategies to cope with our existence.

 

Entwined Roots: Symbiotic Relationships at Wonzimer (May 12 - Jun 4) With Venus and Mars at play, artists Gary Brewer and Aline Mare infuse sexual innuendos, cynical thoughts, and sublime threats of annihilation into their richly-colored paintings.

Lisa Diane Wedgeworth PASSION POWER PRAYER at Band of Vices (May 1 - Jun 12) Large-scale abstract paintings made entirely of black paint interpret America’s fraught historical events and express Wedgeworth’s personal questions about belonging.

 

Against Eden: A Threshold Conversation with Luis “xago” Juárez and Enid Baxter Ryce at Armory Center for the Arts (May 6, 6 pm) Join in on a conversation about organizing, immigration, agriculture, and art in California’s Salinas Valley.

 

WONDERLAND at EPOCH (Mar 6 - May 14) This virtual group exhibition inspired by an abandoned amusement park project in Chenzhuang Village, China features artists of the Chinese diaspora.

 

 

fifteen hours presented by Crenshaw Dairy Mart Artists Dionna Ndlovu and Foremost use outdoor imaginative play to explore Black liberation in this digital video.
