What we talked about this week
- Representative Nearman has been formally charged with official misconduct and criminal tresspass for allowing violent demonstrators into the State Capitol in late December. This has received coverage in The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, The Daily Beast, Newsweek, and in the AP. Also, he has a pretty bad case of Covid right now. If it's the same case that closed the legislature back on April 20, he's been sick a while.
- Speaking of Covid, The Oregonian has launched a visual report tracking vaccinations by county in Oregon. Yamhill County is doing worse than most of our neighbors, at 28% fully vaccinated, 11% partially vaccinated for a total of 39% vaccinated. Remember that 80% is likely what will be needed to achieve herd immunity.
- It's Budget time for Yamhill County! The Budget Committee and Commissioners and County Staff met this week to review the County Budget. For the first time, deliberations were livestreamed.
- This week, Senate Bill 554 passed the State Legislature, fulfilling Commissioner Starrett and Berschauer's worst fears. Because the Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance passed in Yamhill County, County staff are banned from enforcing SB554.
