The Habitat’s Trail. April - October 2021
Funded by The D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust and The Chapman Charitable Trust.
-
The ‘Habitats Trail’ will address the need for the creation and conservation of natural spaces, increased opportunities for connection to nature and the creation of environmental jobs. It will involve local youth and community volunteers in the creation of a new chalk scrape, wildflower plantings and pond within their community-managed woodland. This will form a dedicated ‘learning in nature’ area sitting within a diverse young deciduous woodland and calcareous grassland.
-
Young people, being the heart of the project, will also carry out wildlife surveys under the guidance of a trained ecologist in order to map the changes in habitat and species diversity that will happen as a consequence of their practical action.
-
12 schools sessions and 6 additional youth sessions in the woods with a focus on woodland and chalk meadow ecology.
