May Membership Meeting

Affordable Housing Project Update & Neighborhood Pulse Check

Tuesday, May 11, 2021
7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
(by Zoom video conference - REGISTER NOW)

Join neighbors for the LCA May Membership Meeting, where we'll hear from Jessica Sheldon, Associate Director of Real Estate Development with Resources for Community Development (RCD) -- an affordable housing developer that provides housing for over 5,000 families in the Bay Area.

Jessica will fill us in on the latest regarding RCD's proposal to build a new apartment building on the corner of MLK & MacArthur (site of the former Terry's TV RCA shop, pictured above). The building will have 77 apartments that will be rented to low-income individuals and families as well as ground floor, community-serving retail space. Construction is anticipated to start in 2023 and be completed in 2024.

Following Jessica's presentation and plenty of time for Q&A, we'll hold an open discussion where we hope to get a "pulse check" of the neighborhood as we begin to emerge from the pandemic. As the world starts to open-up again, how are you feeling? What do you need?

Our hope is to create a space for neighbors to share with each other during this meeting. We also appreciate that many of us have been reevaluating priorities, and thought it a good time to ask what you need from and want for your community. Your input will help LCA sharpen our focus around the needs of neighbors -- both in this moment, and over the course of the year.

Be sure to register in advance to receive a personalized link to join the meeting.

#ICYMI

Property Values, Prop 19 & Parks

Neighbors who participated in our April meeting had the chance to meet Alameda County Assessor Phong La, who shared a lot of surprising but enlightening details about the impact of the recent Prop 19 on property taxes and transfers. The Resources page of the LCA website now includes contact info for the County Assessor's office, as well as a link to the free, one-on-one, legal consultation service for Alameda County homeowners he shared with us.

As helpful as it was, all that talk of property law left neighbors in need of some serious Zen. Fortunately, our East Bay Regional Park District Director (Ward 2) & Board President Dee Rosario was also online to point us toward some of his personal favorite spots in the nature that surrounds us.

Thanks again to our special guests, Assessor La and Director Rosario, and to the many of you who joined us!
