Happy Mother's Day,
From Our Family To Yours
"Mothership is an art form, passed down from each generation."
One of the most important holidays in the Italian year is the second Sunday in May , when families come together from wherever they are to celebrate and look after their mothers.

Everyone who is able returns to their family home and those who cannot make it make sure they send a card, a letter, a poem or make a phone call.

In many families , Mamma will not be allowed to cook or to do house work on her special day. Fresh pastries and coffee are made for her and children usually give homemade gifts. Lunches are generally held at the family home or a restaurant. So a good way to celebrate Mother's day - Italian Style - is  to give something homemade, a handwritten card or cook her an Italian meal Even a visit is enough to warm her heart. But most of all, make sure you let her know you love her. That is the best gift for any Italian Mother.

We'd like to share this tribute to Italian Mothers written by Patrizia Cinquini Cerruti, and was first published in the Italian Cultural Society newsletter "Altre Voci" in June 1993.
