Friday 7th May 2021

Dear families,

It's been another eventful week in school....one of our highlights was the author Michael Rosen being part of the school day!

Can you believe it?

Our children joined Michael Rosen on his online poetry workshop this week. He made us listen and laugh!

He was an amazing inspiration who helped us all to learn about how to write a poem about any topic-even silly ones.

Children, you listened and joined in very well. Give yourselves a pat on the back!

Reading

Congratulations to the children who have logged onto Oxford Owl to complete their home reading.

Children can receive the following awards for their reading success:

Bronze – read 3 Oxford Owl books
Silver- read 6 Oxford Owl book
Gold-read 12 Oxford Owl books

If you read at home, every day, you will easily be able to get one of the above an awards by the end of the Summer Term 2021.

Staff will be looking for ways that children are reflecting on their reading e.g. infant children drawing a picture or poster.

Junior children writing a character profile or listing interesting words.

You can send your pictures etc via Google Classroom.

Good Luck everyone.

Bringing Items Into School.

Can we please remind parents and children that items from home (Such as Teddy Bears, Toys, Stationery, Fidget Spinners etc.) should not be brought into school.

We must keep the building COVID-19 secure, to keep all our families safe!

Resilience

Resilience helps us to bounce back when things get tough or do not go as we want or expect.

This Weeks' Tip for Home:

Learning to join in a game (board game/sport) is a vital life skill.

Learning that not always being the winner is supporting the children’s resilience.

Building resilience at an early age will help with mental health and wellbeing in later life. It also helps with friendships and confidence.

Remember the top tip from last week:

Celebrate positive parts of the day each evening.

Curriculum Update
Developing Our Independence

Next Friday we are having a PSHE day in school  this is to cover the new parts of the PSHE curriculum.

Next week each class will be learning about some age - related safety aspects of life e.g. water safety / first aid / sun safety / emergency service.

After the half-term Year 6 will be joining in the Adam Ellison Foundation workshops. The focus of these workshops is knife crime.

Parents...Please support us by joining in the conversation with your children around these important topics!

Year 6 Swimming Lessons.

Swimming lessons will continue for Year 6 on Monday 10th May. Please make you have all the correct kit in school each Monday!

Swimming lessons are part of the National Curriculum and are not optional!

Day of Many Colours

Our School Council suggested that we celebrate our school community and everyone being special.  They wanted everyone to be colourful and cheerful.

On Friday 21st May (The last day of this half term) all classes will be coming to school dressed in colourful clothes.

Please start to think about how colourful you can be!

Attendance

Attendance has been brilliant since we returned to school following the Easter break.

Last week the children attended 98% of possible sessions - That's amazing!

WELL DONE EVERYONE!
(This excludes Covid-19 related absences that can't be helped!).

Sadly, attendance has slipped a bit this week!

So, next week let's try really hard to get it back up!

Remember Everyday In School Counts!

The best attenders so far this term are...

Class 10 - Miss Hester  = 98.79%

Class 9 Miss Rossiter  = 98.10%

Class 4 Miss Haigh & Ms Trayer = 98.01%

This is Brilliant - Keep Up The Good Work!
Come on every other class... let's beat them next week... by being in everyday!
Attendance - Reporting Absences
Reporting ALL absences is even more important at the moment. This helps us to keep the building Covid-19 secure.

Parents please make sure you follow our procedures, so we don't have to isolate any bubbles.

Please telephone school on 0151 477 8400  on the first day of absence. You can also send an email to Admin@smaaa.info

Tell our admin staff the reason for the absence, and when you expect your child to return to school.

All unexplained absences will be looked at by our Attendance Lead, & possibly the School Attendance Service, so it's really important that you report all absences by 10am on the first day of absence!

Remember if your child is off school due to illness,  hospital  or dental appointments,  you must  also send an email with a copy of the medical letter / proof to Admin@smaaa.info

We cannot authorise any absence without proof!

Covid-19 Information
Remember:

If anyone in a household is sick or showing signs of illness;
nobody from the household should come near school.

If someone is waiting for a Covid-19 test result
the whole household should not come near school!

If anyone in household has a cough, temperature, or loss of smell,
then a PCR test is needed, at a test centre, lateral flow tests cannot be used!

We do not want anyone put at risk!

Please note that the situation around Corona virus is rapidly changing and the information is correct at the time of sending this communication.
