News from John and Meg Glass

May 2021

Here are some of the highlights from the last few months!
France and the End of the COVID-19 Lockdown?

Like the rest of the world, France has known its share of lockdowns during COVID-19. We are still under a 7PM curfew with all non-essential stores closed. Restrictions, to the great relief of the population, should be loosened in the next couple of weeks to return to some kind of "normal" by the summer. After all, France is the number one tourist destination of the world, and cafés are a “critical” aspect of France’s culture!

Pastoral Transition in our Church

The transition from me (the founding pastor) to the new pastor, Franck Segonne, is going exceptionally well, thank the Lord. Franck has been here for 8 months already, and we get along super-well. The church has fully embraced him and his family. Franck is an excellent French expository preacher who is 100% aligned doctrinally with the church. He is a rare breed in France. We are thankful for him. Just before arriving at the church, he published a great book on evangelism in French, titled L’Evangélisation Durable. His presence is already giving the church a major evangelistic impetus and everyone is excited. Meg and I continue to serve in the church as Franck and I share the preaching. The official Transition Sunday will take place in September, at which point I will no longer be pastor or elder. That may sound sad, but remember that this is the church-planter’s goal and dream – passing the church on to a local pastor. With regards to our future ministry plans, we are praying and consulting with our home church, Grace Community Church, about several options that we are quite excited about. We will share about these in a later newsletter. The photo above is of our church still under COVID-19 attendance restrictions. The short video below will walk you from our worship area in the hotel where we meet, to our Sunday School area where Meg is teaching one of the Sunday school classes.

Meg’s Latest Articles on the ACBC Website

Meg continues to enjoy counseling with women who have contacted her from several countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and she also enjoys contributing articles to the ACBC website. Here are her last two articles that hopefully will be a source of encouragement to you.

My Book is for Sale on Geneva’s Main Street!

My new book A Walking Guide to John Calvin’s Geneva is now being sold at the Bible House Bookstore on Geneva’s main shopping street (next to the red dot)! It is also being sold at the Reformation Museum and at Payot, the largest bookstore in Geneva. As tourism begins to re-open, I am getting more and more requests for Reformation tours, the last request coming from a group of Swiss evangelical gypsies! The French translation of my book should be coming this month, and Kindle copies should be appearing on the Amazon website soon as well. Thank you for praying about Calvin Tours as I really would like to use it as a ministry in Geneva to educate Genevans about their great history of the Reformation and its Gospel impact in Geneva and around the world. Please visit calvintours.com for more information about the book and about tours.

A Close Call for our Son James in Dubai

Our son James (in the photo above with his wife Salomie and brother John) caught a very bad case of COVID-19 in Dubai. He was in bed for two weeks with 39-degree fever and had to be taken to the hospital twice. We were there, and at one point we actually feared for his life. He finally made a complete recovery, thank the Lord, and thanks also to the competence of the hospital staff and the many who were praying for him. Salomie, who was at his side the entire time, never caught COVID, nor did we or his brother John who was also there on business. We stayed in Dubai until he was well and got to enjoy THE ULTIMATE DUBAI CHEESEBURGER!  Take a peek:
Traveling to the US this Summer
I have been invited to speak at the Ascend Youth Camp in Kansas from June 26-29 where over one thousand middle and high school students are expected to attend (https://www.ascendcamp.com)!  I will also be sharing about our ministry at Mission Road Bible Church in Kansas City (Rick Holland) on Friday June 25th. From there, Lord willing, Meg and I will head to Tacoma to spend time with her 97-year-old mother. We will then head to Florida to visit some supporting churches and to spend time with our son John who now lives in Miami Beach and attends Grace Church Miami (Eric Bancroft). We also plan to enjoy a bit of R&R prior to returning to Geneva at the end of July.

A Few Prayer Requests:

  1. That the pastoral transition at our church would go smoothly. That God would greatly bless the new pastor, Franck Segonne, and the church.
  2. For our future ministry plans as we transition out of that church. That we would be sensitive to God’s leadings.
  3. For Calvin Tours. That it would become clear to me how to use the incredible historical platform of John Calvin to further the cause of Christ in Geneva and beyond.
  4. For our children, John in Miami, Kimberly in France, and James and Salomie in Dubai. That God would continue to work out His perfect plan in their lives.

Thank you for your friendship, prayers, and support of the ministry here in Geneva! Please let us know how we can pray for you.
