Negotiation process for OAS Labor Ministerial begins 

On May 3, the Virtual Forum of the XXI Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor opened, in order to allow delegations from OAS Member States, workers and employers (through COSATE and CEATAL) to make comments to the Draft Declaration and Plan of Action of Buenos Aires, to be adopted at the Ministerial meeting to take place on September 22-24 in Argentina. All delegations have received access credentials from the Technical Secretariat in order to participate in the Forum, which will remain open until June 30.

Workers: Example of the resilience needed to overcome the crisis 

In commemoration of International Workers’ Day, the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, congratulated the workers from the Americas, who are “example of the resilience and impulse necessary to overcome the crisis”, and recognized their struggle, which has brought fundamental achievements for the region.

Hemispheric dialogue on gender, telework and caregiving co-responsibility is closer 

The preparations continue for the 2nd Hemispheric dialogue among Gender Units within the Ministries of Labor: “Telework and caregiving co-responsibility for a gender-responsive recovery”, to take place virtually on May 26. In this space, officers responsible of gender, focal points of the Ministries to the RIAL and other actors will be able to exchange experiences and make recommendations on how to ensure telework does not continue to exacerbate the existing gaps between women and men in the labor market and, instead, contributes to reach caregiving co-responsibility and promote gender equality in the region.

Renewed commitment to create safer and healthier workplaces 

Within the framework of the World Day of Occupational Safety and Health, the Ministries of Labor of the region recognized the renewed importance that integral and preventive occupational safety and health policies play in the construction of a new normal that guarantees safe environments for workers. The OAS-RIAL renews its commitment of supporting the Ministries of Labor in these efforts.
