Libraries Update: Bath Central, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton Libraries are open for customer browsing and the collection of reservations, from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

There will be some changes in place to protect public health, and these are:

  • Main library areas will be available for browsing following social distancing protocols
  • Public computers can be used for a 30 minute session on a first come first serve basis. There are no printing facilities at Midsomer Norton Library.
  • Self study areas will remain closed
  • Books should still be returned through the designated drop-boxes on the ground floor and main entrance of Bath Central Library, and at the entrances of Keynsham and Midsomer Norton Libraries
  • Face coverings are required in our libraries, unless you have a special exemption, in line with the latest government guidance on face coverings
  • The number of people entering the library at any one time will be limited
  • Follow social distancing protocols and use hand sanitisers provided

We want to hear from you! Whether it's to answer any questions you have, to pass on ideas, or just to say hello, email Emily on Library_Volunteers@bathnes.gov.uk or ring 01225 395968.

Take care of yourselves!

Welcome back to the LVRG!

How did you get on with The Duchess of Cornwall's Reading Room List? Did you find anything you'd like to recommend?

This month's choice is... Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams or Ask A Footballer by James Milner.

Scroll down to 'World Book Night' to find out why these books and how to get hold of them!

In the mean time, read a staff member's review of Hitchhikers over on our blog, as well as loads of other reviews and recommendations!

Coffee Morning has gone Virtual!

We'll be holding the next virtual coffee morning on Tuesday 11th of May, 10-11.

It would be lovely to see you and have a catch up!

The meeting will be over Zoom, so you can join in using a phone, tablet or computer.

Let me know you'd like to join by emailing Library_volunteers@bathnes.gov.uk and I will send you the secure link.
World Book Night

Did you join in with the events of World Book Night?

There were talks, book recommendations, a dedicated reading hour, printables, free ebook and eaudiobooks, a book sorter to help you choose your next read and a quiz.

And we're giving away free copies of 'The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy' by Douglas Adams and 'Ask A Footballer' by James Milner. To grab your copy visit one of our main libraries, Community Run Libraries or Specsavers in Midsomer Norton.

We're pleased to say we were able to gift books through our Reading Friends partners and other local groups.

To catch up and find out more visit our blog or the website:

Games Jam

Any games lovers or designers amongst you will love Leeds Libraries' BBC 100 Novels project!

They launched a game-making competition and hosted talks by experts on different aspects of designing and playing board games, as well as discussing their favourites and asking 'What makes a good game?'

You can watch the talks on their YouTube channel and find out more on their website.

Local and Community History Month

We'll be celebrating L&CHM during May across our social media channels, where we'll be looking at some of the more unusual aspects of our history, such as the Fry's Chocolate Train in Keynsham and B&NES association with nursery rhymes!
Send Us Your Reviews!

We love sharing real reviews from our community as there's no better way to find a good book than by recommendation!

June is Crime Novel Month so if you have an old favourite or a new mystery you've just discovered and want to talk about, email them to Library_Events@bathnes.gov.uk
We have changed our eMagazine and eComics provider!
Libby, by OverDrive, has over 3,000 magazine titles to choose from and over 2,800 comics for adults and children!
To set up your account, see the tutorial videos for phones and tablets (above) and computers (below).
Enjoy!
Thank you!

A big thank you for keeping in touch and sticking with us - hopefully we can see you all soon!

Best wishes,
The B&NES Library Team.
