DUT’S CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT PRODUCES ITS OWN HAND SANITISERS
The Department of Chemistry at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) has recently started manufacturing its own hand sanitisers at the laboratory in the Abdul Hameed building at ML Sultan Campus.
According to the Chemistry Department’s Professor Phumlane Mdluli, this project was initiated by their postgraduate student, Ntokozo Mabaso after he heard that the Department of Biotechnology at DUT had stopped the production of sanitisers. This project is part of DUT’s ongoing initiatives to curb the spread of COVID-19 at the University.
TECHNOLOGY, TRANSFER AND INNOVATION (TTI) DEPARTMENT CELEBRATED WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) DAY
The Technology, Transfer and Innovation held a World Intellectual Property (IP) DAY Webinar at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), on Monday, 26 April 2021 via MS Teams.
World IP Day is observed annually on 26 April and was recognised by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to increase attentiveness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the advancement of societies across the world.
STUDENT ENTREPRENUERS ATTEND FOUR-DAY PITCH READINESS TRAINING
To prepare student entrepreneurs to enter the anticipated Urban Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) Entrepreneurship Intervarsity 2021, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Midlands Entrepreneurship Centre and Student Desk and the Durban Entrepreneurship Desk hosted a four-day Pitch Readiness Training at Sica’s Guest House in Durban, last week, from 19 to 22 April 2021.
35 Student entrepreneurs from DUT were invited to this training consisting of business experts who shared their entrepreneurial knowledge focusing on Pitch Readiness,
Third year and Advanced Diploma students in the Department of Food and Nutrition were involved in an international Cook Along showcasing South African cuisine as part of a three-day Foodture International Collaboration Workshop.
The livestreamed event took place on 20 April 2021, at 17:30pm from the Rendezvous restaurant, based at the Steve Biko campus.
Three universities; Hague (Netherlands), Antwerp (Belgium) and the Durban University of Technology (DUT) took part in the Cook Along, with 11 participants from three universities, with DUT having had the most participants.
