In this week's newsletter, there will be more stimulus payments in the fall, California loses a congressional seat, we learn sac state continues to look for a new police chief, we learn about the CSU chancellors thoughts on the fall campus return, we also have broadcast coverage.

Nelsen announces another round of direct payments to Sac State students in fall

Sacramento State President Robert Nelsen announced stimulus funds will be distributed to students in the fall during an Associated Students, Inc. working board meeting Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Another round of stimulus checks to be distributed this fall, according to Sacramento State President Robert Nelsen. Nelsen said students will receive between $650 and $850. The amount a student receives will depend on their financial aid and Pell grant status and how many units they are enrolled in.

Sac State’s police chief search continues amid criticism of recruiting firm

Sacramento State is searching for the next chief of police after current chief Mark Iwasa announced his retirement. Vice President for Administration Jonathan Bowman said the search committee hopes to make a decision by the end of the spring semester or at the end of this coming summer. Patrick Posuniak

The search for a new Police chief for Sacramento State continues.  Sacramento State is using a firm called Bob Murray & Associates and Joel Bryden, vice president of the firm, to assist in the search. This is drawing controversy because of his officers killing a 22-year-old in 2012.

CSU chancellor shares new details about fall 2021 campus return

California State University Chancellor Joseph Castro spoke about his feelings on the upcoming fall semester and answered students' questions in a town hall hosted via Zoom.

Castro said mask requirements could change as Center for Disease Control's guidelines change and vaccinations increase.
