Half the world’s population is under 30 and yet only 2.6% of MPs globally represent this age group. The IPU has identified six ways to change this. Discover our campaign here and take two minutes to pick one or more pledge(s) to make your parliament younger!

Parliaments are getting (slightly) younger according to the latest IPU data. The global proportion of MPs aged under 30 has edged up to 2.6 per cent, according to the new IPU report on Youth Participation in National Parliaments. This represents an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared with two years ago. However, with 50 per cent of the world’s population under 30, the report highlights a sizeable deficit in the political representation of young people worldwide.

Youth Participation in National Parliaments (English and French)
The IPU has been collecting data and information on youth participation in parliaments for the past ten years. This latest report is the fourth in the series and is based on data from 2020.

Handbook for parliamentarians on nutrition and food systems (English, French and Spanish)
This handbook provides lawmakers with practical guidance on legislative processes that prioritize nutrition. The handbook was produced in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization and in collaboration with the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement, the World Heath Organization, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development.
