Submit your abstract to the 6th GGP User Conference

The Generations & Gender programme is delighted to announce the 6th GGP User Conference. This conference brings together researchers working with data from the Gender and Generations Survey, the GGP Contextual Database, or the Harmonized Histories. It invites them to present and discuss their most recent methodological approaches and empirical findings. The conference provides a forum for exchange of ideas among existing as well as new GGP users, policymakers, and the research community at large. Given the Covid-19 pandemic, the conference will take place online.

The organizers especially encourage submission of papers using recently collected rounds of the GGS survey as well as papers providing new methodological insights. Moreover, we encourage  papers using longitudinal or multi-country data. Papers can be submitted for (virtual) oral presentation. There is no fee for the conference, but places are limited.

Abstracts should be submitted here by May 21st. Note that a participant can be first author on only one paper. The abstract should be no more than 300 words. Authors will be notified shortly after about the outcome of their submission.

If you have any questions regarding the conference, please direct them to ggp@nidi.nl.

GGS in Moldova:
Data release and GGP-Connect webinar

Data of the Moldovan GGS can now be downloaded from the GGP user portal. The data set contains information from 10,045 respondents (3,829 men; 6,216 women). The survey was conducted from January until December 2020. In the 2nd GGP Connect webinar, Aliona Cristei (UNFPA Moldova) and Aliona Cretu (Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection) presented the Moldovan GGS. Amongst other, they explained how the fieldwork was adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic. Interviewers were trained to collect data in a socially distant way and the importance of participating in the GGS was promoted via TV, Radio and Social Media.

Thanks to these efforts, it was possible to complete an interesting survey which includes questions about COVID-19 and facilitates a comparison between data collected before and after the onset of the pandemic. Changes in fertility intentions and use of contraception have for example been analysed in a preprint by Tom Emery and Judith Koops.

The third GGP Connect webinar on the Norwegian GGS will be held on 25 May. Information on the registration will follow via E-Mail as well as on Twitter. Recordings of our GGP Connect webinars can be found here

Send us your recent GGS publications

The GGP has applied for inclusion in the ESFRI Roadmap (The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures). The number of publications is one of the Key Performance Indicators. While we are trying to monitor all publications, we are likely missing some - especially in non-English. Please check the GGP bibliography on our website, and let us know if we are missing any peer-reviewed publications (including master or PhD theses). You can send the submissions to ggp@nidi.nl or upload them directly to our bibliography

Linking Social Surveys and Linguistic Infrastructures

The GGP is participating in the Social Science and Humanities Open Cloud (SSHOC), which is an infrastructure cluster project. One of the deliverables we are in charge of consists of an experiment collecting audio recordings in quantitative surveys.

On 16 April, SSHOC held a workshop on linking social surveys with linguistic infrastructures through speech interviews. After an introduction by Judith Koops (GGP), Joris Mulder (CentERdata) presented the LISS panel which enables the inclusion of audio recordings in large scale surveys. Dr. Henk van den Heuvel (CLARIN) gave examples of analysis tools which automatically transcribe and analyse audio data. Afterwards, participants were able to discuss the potential of the presented methods in breakout rooms. Recordings of the workshop are available here.

FReDA Panel: Call for Modules

The FReDA panel is a biannual, self-administered panel survey (online and paper) that will collect data for the first time in 2021. The thematic focus is on family life and population in Germany (for more information: www.freda-panel.de). The first wave is the implementation of the new Generations and Gender Survey (GGS 2020) in Germany.

For the questionnaire of the autumn 2022 panel wave (W2b), the FReDA team will welcome submissions of individual questions and entire modules. The submission deadline is June 30, 2021, with a total of three minutes of survey time available for each submission. The call and more information can be found here.
