Crews remove sailboat that went adrift in Alafia River, hit powerline, caught fire and sank
Crews in Hillsborough County successfully removed a 37-foot sailboat from the Alafia River. According to county officials, heavy winds sent the boat adrift a few weeks ago in the river near U.S. 41.

HART Plans To Replace Entire Fleet by 2035
The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) is working to replace all of its diesel engine buses with electric battery buses by 2035. The goal is to reduce air pollution across the Tampa Bay area and create more job opportunities.

State parks win ‘record funding’ in new State budget
The Florida Legislature approved more than $67 million into the state’s parks this year. The budget marks a record year for the parks, according to Gil Ziffer, State Parks Foundation President. 

Legislation approves task force to preserve African American cemeteries
A popular bill that would establish a task force to preserve Florida’s African American cemeteries is headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk. Tampa Sen. Janet Cruz and Rep. Fentrice Driskell carried the House to a nearly unanimous vote in both chambers.

$3M Roundabout Will Relieve Dorman & Boyette In 2023
Ask any resident to name some of the busiest (and most dangerous) cross streets in FishHawk and the intersection of Boyette Rd. and Dorman Rd. may top the list. County transportation officials agree, and part of the Operation and Safety Enhancement Program includes installing a roundabout at the intersection.

Volunteers Needed For The Upcoming ‘Let’s Plant Some Trees’ Project
Florida’s largest single-day tree planting event will occur on Saturday, June 12 at the Lower Green Swamp Nature Preserve in Plant City. A total of 20,000 longleaf pine seedlings will be planted on 80 acres. Those interested in volunteering must preregister by Friday, June 4, as spots will be limited to the first 200.

In 2021, The Tampa EDITION will open in the lively Water Street Tampa neighborhood, making this the second EDITION hotel in Florida and Tampa’s first-ever five-star luxury hotel-branded residential development. The hotel and condo building will have 172 hotel rooms and 37 luxury condo residences, from floors 10 to 26. There will also be seven food and beverage concepts, an extensive spa and fitness center and a rooftop pool.
