Adjusted Face Covering Requirement
Man in red and blue putting on a face mask in front of a building

NC State is adjusting its requirements for the use of face coverings on campus effective as of May 1. Please read this update carefully.

While indoors, face coverings are still required on campus for all students, faculty, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status unless:

  • You are alone in a private, enclosed dorm room, apartment or office with the door closed.
  • You are in an enclosed indoor space when only household members are present.
  • You are actively eating or drinking while maintaining physical distancing.

Face coverings are not required in outside areas, but they are highly encouraged, especially in large crowds or for those who have not yet been vaccinated. Stay up to date with the latest community standards on the Protect the Pack website.

Coin For Exceptional Service
Jeff Luz, In-House Construction Unit, was recognized for his involvement in the Pullen Hall renovation project and the new Design School renovations at Lampe Hall. He was able to complete the Pullen Hall project under budget and quicker than planned from six weeks to three weeks. Jeff serves as the liaison for In-House Construction with the State Construction Office. Because of his ability to explain the project clearly in the Design Exemption Requests, the university can save over $120,000 a year in design consultant fees.

Willy Yamamoto complimented that "Jeff positively impacts the work lives of everyone. It does not matter whether they are teammates, customers, colleagues or external customers, he quietly jumps in there and makes everyone's jobs a little easier. I am privileged to work with someone who asks for so little, but gives everyone so much."

Spring In The Air
Campus starts to look vibrant come springtime with all the flowering shrubs, bulbs and deciduous trees coming alive and showing color in the landscape. Grounds Services is in full force ensuring campus is looking the best it can. While working daily on weeds, blowing and spring planting projects, we stop to take time to maintain these spring bloomers appropriately. While most people think of pruning as being a winter activity in the garden, spring flowering shrubs react best to being pruned late spring after they have bloomed. Azaleas and Loropetalum are some examples of these shrubs that can be seen around campus. By pruning them right after their bloom time, this controls the height and shape of the shrub for the following year while promoting new growth for next spring. Thanks to all Grounds Services employees for working so hard to keep things looking great around campus!
