IMPORTANT! CHANGE TO COVID POLICY ON CAMPUS

As more studies of COVID-19 transmission are published and the number of positive cases and hospitalizations continue to remain low, the Cobb County Department of Health, CDC, and state of Georgia have revised COVID mitigation guidelines. Based on these changes, we will no longer be taking temperatures during carpool beginning next Monday, May 3. Parents should continue to monitor their child’s symptoms of infectious illness including fever every day prior to coming on campus. Also, we will no longer require masks when students, staff, and other campus visitors are outside and socially distanced. All other COVID mitigation strategies, including masking indoors, remain in place.

If you have any questions regarding current CDC requirements and for information on monitoring your child’s symptoms, please visit this CDC webpage with updated guidelines. If there are any questions regarding your child’s health, please have them remain at home and contact our school nurse, Meredith Hawks.

For your reference, we've included the updated CDC school guidelines below:

“Because of these limitations and challenges, CDC does not currently recommend routine (such as daily) school-based COVID-19 symptom screening of all students. However, students should not attend school when they are sick. Schools can minimize some of the limitations and challenges of symptom screening and help reduce the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 by:

  • Encouraging families to check their students’ health and keep students home when they are sick,
  • Emphasizing home symptom screening or being aware of symptoms that suggest infectious illness generally rather than comprehensive screening for all known symptoms of COVID-19,
  • Basing decisions for safe return to school on the likelihood that the student’s symptoms are from COVID-19.”

BIG BROADCAST

All 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students are part of The Big Broadcast this year! Students have been singing, dancing, acting, filming, and even working behind the scenes creating green screen effects to make this production possible. Students filmed during music class and recorded a virtual performance that will be sent out to all Lower School families via email from Ms. Berry on Friday, May 7 in the evening. The link will also be shared via Google Classroom. We are so proud of all these students, and we cannot wait for you to see what they have accomplished!

AP EXAMS SCHEDULE
This is a reminder that AP exams are May 3-7, May 10-14, and May 17. Students should check their Schoology account daily for updates from Mrs. Purcell. Students will report to their testing rooms 15 minutes prior to the beginning of a scheduled exam. AP exams will occur in several locations around campus this year, so it is extremely important to check to see where to report for individual exams.

CHAPEL UPDATE

Our graduating seniors, many of whom have participated in hundreds of weekly chapels throughout their time at Whitefield, got to produce this week's virtual chapel as represented in the photos here. They spent time reflecting on the promises of God and encouraged the rest of the Upper School students to do the same. Please join us in praying for our seniors, that they would continue growing into people with a passion for learning, others ahead of self, and for the living and active Jesus.

The final week of topicals wrapped up in the Middle School yesterday. We're so glad that the students were able to gather with their grades and spend time turning their eyes to the Lord.

The Lower School students had their last classroom chapel of the year this morning, during which Ms. Morgan's kindergarten class talked about the meaning of kindness. The Lord shows us kindness and we can be kind to one another.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BIOBLITZ
During Friday Flex last week, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students participated in BioBlitz, an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time to get a snapshot of an area's biodiversity. In all, students identified 100 species and had 170 total unique observations. All data has been upload to iNaturalist, the premier citizen science community app. Local biologists are already assisting us by popping in and out to confirm our IDs. This project empowers our students to identify the living things in their surroundings using technology. Great job, young scientists!
