NVTA Update
May 2021
We hope this edition of NVTA Update finds you well! Let's jump right in to keep you up-to-speed on everything happening at the Authority.
In case you missed it, we have updated our Economic Impact Analysis, highlighting how taxpayer dollars are hard at work. The new study analyzes the economic impacts of $3.3 Billion in regional and local funding through the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority.
Teaming up with Chmura Economics & Analytics once again, a nationally recognized economic modeling system was utilized, while increasing transparency and reliability. The Authority's investments in regional, multimodal transportation projects located throughout NoVA, results in:
- More than $5 Billion in economic impact in the Commonwealth, giving more than 150 percent return on investment.
- 30,000 jobs created in the Commonwealth, with 90 percent staying in NoVA, ensuring the future growth and vitality of the region.

NVTA Executive Director Around the Region
Pictured (top left going clockwise): Joe McAndrew, Vice President, Greater Washington Partnership; Monica Backmon, NVTA Executive Director; and Michael McLaughlin, Chief of Rail Transportation, DRPT
On April 20th, Monica Backmon, NVTA Executive Director, participated in Greater Washington Partnership's "Unpacking the Capital Region Rail Vision" virtual event, which dove into Capital Region Rail Vision’s assumptions and recommendations to help the region understand how we can work collaboratively to bring the Vision to fruition. You can find all the featured speakers and a recording of the event, here.
**Did you know the Authority is funding 13 railway projects, totaling $243M+?**
Additionally, Ms. Backmon was invited to speak at Loudoun County's Virtual Public Information Meeting on the Extension of Dulles West Boulevard from Northstar Boulevard to Arcola Boulevard, held on April 29th. The Authority programmed nearly $48 million dollars in regional revenues on this regionally significant project, which fully funds design, engineering, Right of Way, and construction. When the project is completed, travelers in Loudoun County and across the region will benefit from congestion reduction and travel time improvements. The Authority recognizes the rapid growth of Loudoun County and the need to invest in important infrastructure projects to help keep the region moving. In fact, the Authority is investing $461 million in the Loudoun County Parkway/Bi-County Parkway/Rt. 234 Corridor.
The newly created Central Virginia Transportation Authority (CVTA), invited both Ms. Backmon and Kevin Page, Executive Director, Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission, to present before the Board as part of a Roundtable discussion during their April 30th business meeting. Ms. Backmon explained the Authority's structure, NVTA staffing, legislative history, committees, core responsibilities, and economic impacts of the Authority's investments.
